Cloud DVR

When I am recording a sports game (even when it is my only recording at that time), it records as a cloud recording. This makes it poorer quality. Why is it not automatically recording as a regular recording?

@user_eqyry1 Thanks for reaching out to us,  if you're on a plan with the 20 hours of cloud DVR storage and do not have a physical DVR the recordings are all recorded to the cloud. If you have the DVR subscription of $10 or the premium DVR service of $20 and have the X1 DVR,  your recordings will also be saved to the hard drive of the DVR.

The cloud recordings will give you the option to be able to download to the Xfinity streaming app on a mobile device to be able to view that recording on the go

This is not fully correct, there are some sports and some channels that for some reason create a cloud recording instead of a DVR recording even if you have premium dvr service, I've been trying to get this fixed for years.  It's incredibly frustrating because no one at xfinity can ever answer why this happens, and the quality of a cloud recording is horrible, especially for sports.

NFL -2years    NBA- this year    Cloud only recordings   Never an explanation why Comcast is doing this.
