Change in Length of time a DVR is stored

When did the DVR storage length change to only 1 year?

Is there a way to extend the length to longer than 1 year?

If a program or movie is recently viewed before that year, why can't the clock for it be extended beyond that year?

Will the DVR upgrade extend that length?

A wonderful set of questions, @user_058766

The storage length of time on a DVR updated, a few years ago. This is when my co-workers and I started looking into the details of the storage. There are some that can/do stick around longer, however, this is something that is not common.

At this time, there is really no way to extend the length past the 1 year mark.

The recording is timestamped for it to start the 1 year of storage, from the date it was recorded not viewed.

At this time there is not a way to extend the saved recording past this mark. This is what I did find for you though!
Keep Your Recordings: You can keep your recordings for up to one year, but you may need to erase some recorded programs from time to time in order to make room for new ones. You can change the recording option to For 1 Year if you want to be able to watch them over and over again. Choose Record OptionsModify Recording (if it's a series, you’ll also have the option to modify just the episode or the series), then save For 1 Year.
