Cannot Get X1 Box to Output 480p (or 480i)

Hello,

I have a unique situation. I have a television in my kitchen that was purchased in that "in between" SD and HD period. It's a 480p (4:3) flat panel with no HDMI input. It has component, composite and S-Video (no coax). The previous box I was using with this TV malfunctioned and I picked up a new X1 box from Comcast. I bought an HDMI to Component adapter and set the adapter to output 480p. The issue is that I cannot get the box to output anything but 1080p. It is convinced that it's sending a signal to a 1080p television and there NO option to change it to 480p or 480i. It only gives me the choice between 1080p and 1080p60.

Is there ANY way AT ALL to force this box to output a 480p signal? I've tried manipulating settings, hooking the box up to other monitors, etc. I'm simply out of ideas. Obviously the TV is worthless if it can't be watched, but I'd rather hold onto it because it is the perfect size (and white color) for a custom "cutout" area in my kitchen.

Welcome to our community forum, @Radar737! My mom loves her TV in the kitchen to watch as she cooks so I definitely understand why you want to keep it there! When you replaced it, did they give you the same model as the previous box? Are you able to see the screen at all? If so, please try these steps and let me know if it helps.

  1. Press the xfinity button on your remote.
  2. Go to the gear icon to the far right, and press OK.
  3. Go to Device Settings, then Video Display, then Video Output Resolution.
    • For an SD TV, select 4:3480i SD, and then press OKNote: X1 apps aren’t available in 480i or 480p.
