Can the XiD-P box be used to control volume

I recently purchased a Dell Inspiron 7720 desktop PC that has a built in Monitor function with an HDMI connector.  When I plug my XiD-P box into the HDMI, I get picture and sound and can change channels, but am unable to control the volume. The Windows 11 volume controls on the keyboard do not work in Monitor mode.  I have tried reprogramming the remote, but it keeps trying to pair with a "Dell TV" that does not exist.  Can the volume be controlled from the XiD-P box or do I need a different box (the Primary X1 box is in the living room and the XiD-P is in the bedroom.

AFAIK none of their "TV Box" devices control volume. The box remote control sends volume commands to the device the box is connected to (usually a TV set) and that's what handles volume control. If your monitor doesn't provide a way to do that you're out of luck, unless you can find some sort of 3rd party volume control gadget.

Hello, @user_1w3g2d. Thanks for posting on our community forums. That's a great question. Pairing the remote control would depend on the type of remote control and the TV you have. With the XiD TV box, you probably have an XR2 remote. Is this correct? I see Dell listed on our compatible devices with that remote. But if you have a different remote control, you can also check the pairing steps and compatibility HERE. Let me know if these steps work.

@XfinityDilary Thank you for responding.  First, I have a Dell PC that has a Monitor function; think of it as a TV without channel or volume controls (it does have speakers and the HDMI audio is very load when in monitor mode).  It is in my bedroom where I have connected it to an Xfinity XiD-C "secondary" TV Box via HDMI cable.  I have an Xr15 remote that will control the channel selection, guide, etc., but cannot control the volume (the problem).  If I try to pair that remote, it "sees" a Dell TV and tries to pair to it, but since it is not really a TV, the pairing fails.  In the living room I have the main TV Box, and Xfinity XG1-P paired to a Xr11 remote.  Everything works as expected in the living room.

My question centers around the "primary" TV box (XG1-P), and if I moved it into the bedroom and hooked up the monitor to it, whether or not it can be programmed to handle the volume functions of the HDMI signal being sent to the monitor.  I would then put the secondary XiD-C box in the living room and reprogram it to control the TV.

Got it, @user_1w3g2d. Thanks for clarifying. I am trying to research this further, but it is a third-party device, and other than the pairing instructions listed, our troubleshooting on this might be a bit limited. Do you know if the Dell PC has a volume setting that might be preventing the pairing? You could also reach out to our PC manufacturer for further assistance.

Thanks for your response, @user_1w3g2d. I am not entirely sure if switching boxes will make any difference in terms of the volume. The only way to test that would be to try it. I understand is a Dell PC functioning as a monitor. But I don't believe it should make any difference if you are using the monitor function on it. The link I provided shows Dell devices as compatible with our Remote Controls. Did you try the steps listed under XR15>Dell?

Yes, I tried pairing, and as I said, after pairing the remote with cable box, the Xfinity system goes on to recognize the Dell PC as a TV, but when pairing is complete, the volume and on/off functions do not work, only channel selection which of course is controlled by the TV box.   I guess I'll try moving the "PC/Monitor" into the living room and try using the XG1-P to see if it has setting that might work.
