braves vision glitches constantly

We have an XG1v3 settop box with pristine RF levels, 44 dB SNR, and yet channel 1254 is constantly glitching.  Audio cuts out, video freezes, often both at the same time.  Tiling as well.  The difference between this channel and all the other linear channels in the guide is that Braves Vision is delivered via 8 Mbps IP video stream over the embedded DOCSIS modem inside the STB.  But I've got a good drop, so is it just that this old STB can't keep up with this stream?  Yes, I've rebooted.  And it's the only box I have so there's nothing to compare it to.  And I don't have Xfinity internet, so the Xfinity Stream app is basically dead to me.  Any thoughts?

Hello @supernintendo thank you for reaching out on our community forum! Is this the only channel that this is happening on? Have you done any other troubleshooting steps? Also, do you know how long you have had the box?

This problem has happened only on this channel ever since Comcast started to carry this channel.  I've also returned the box to the Xfinity store and got a new box, and the exact same thing happens - ONLY ON THIS CHANNEL.

Troubleshooting I have done is launch the debug screens and look at DOCSIS levels and SNR since this is an IPTV channel that is delivered over DOCSIS and not a QAM.  My DOCSIS Rx level is 0 dBmV and the SNR is over 40 (only ~27 needed for clean data to flow).

I have also looked at other IPTV channels in the lineup and they are using lower bitrates.  I really think that this 8 Mbps encoding of this channel is just too much for this old hardware.  And I can't get an Xi box because I don't have Comcast internet :(

Gotcha, I do appreciate the additional context and given your current setup it stands to reason that you're right about the channel being impacted by its IPTV broadcasting. Naturally, older equipment is going to struggle to keep up with newer channels being broadcast in ways the equipment was not designed for, so there is only so much that can be done in that regard. That said, I still want to make sure we explore all options as I know how annoying it is to miss a Guards game for myself.

Up to this point, have any technicians been to your home to review the issue further?

No, I haven't called Comcast yet.  Even if a tech comes out - the channel is only broadcast during braves games which are typically 7PM or later.  During business hours, the channel is just a slate & looped audio, so no glitching.

Could you escalate to engineering in Philly for me, and ask them to watch this channel on an XG and see if there's anything they can do?

@supernintendo Thank you for providing additional information, We can't guarantee a engineer escalation especially before exhausting all troubleshooting. As asked earlier, how long have you had the box?

I thought I answered that but I'll try again.  The box is brand new.  The old box had the same issue.  I had it for approximately 1 year.  I took it to the Xfinity store and replaced it with a new one last week, and the same problem happens on both boxes.

Regarding your question to user_4f1bkg, the channel in question only plays content during a braves game.  So, if you tune to the channel at any other time, you only see a slate:  a static background with looping audio.  The glitching only happens during the Braves game - which by the way is the only reason I pay Comcast $170 every month.  I'd like to be able to watch the Braves without the glitching.  Thanks for your help.  If you'd like any info related to the signal quality of my drop or my outlet, let me know.  I work for another cable company so I'm familiar with the technology and the process.

Thanks for reaching out @user_4f1bkg! I can understand how frustrating it is when a channel you're trying to watch continually freezes, tiles, or cuts out, especially if other channels are working normally. To help narrow this down, can you confirm a couple of details for us?

• Does the issue occur only during the live Braves programming, or does it also happen during the commercial breaks?

• Are you seeing the same video/audio issues every time you tune to the channel?
