8 hour limit on dvr viewing

I have a 10-hour recording, but at the end of 8 hours it kicks me out and I can't watch the rest of it. Why?

Hi there, @JDHoutz I'm very sorry for the trouble you are experiencing with your recordings. Have you tried adjusting the recording start and stop times? Have you checked your DVR storage?-Richard

The start and stop times are determined by the broadcast. The main ESPN broadcasts of Wimbledon on Friday and Saturday were ten hours long. I have no control over that. I had to stop the Saturday recording after the 8th hour, delete the recording, recover it, and restart the recording on the same channel to be able to watch the final 2 hours. There has never been a capacity issue. I have many other recordings and am nowhere near 100%. If the DVR was full, all my other recordings would fail.

Are you suggesting I figure out how to tell my DVR to split the recording into two parts to get around the 8 hour limit? How could I do that, and why should I have to?

I have learned that the 8-hour limit on a single DVR recording is a system problem. Upgrading capacity and equipment does not help. It is currently up to the user to discover whether a scheduled recording is going to be longer than 8 hours and jump through some hoops to be able see the whole thing, namely to create two shorter recordings by manually determining the start and stop times for each segment.
