Transferring Services to Another User

My roommate and I currently split the same WiFi services through Xfinity and use the same router equipment, network, etc. Our arrangement is such that my account is the one through which we pay the bill each month and manage any service issues or changes as they arise.

I'm moving across the country in a month and would love to transfer these services to my roommate, who is staying in our current apartment, so she can continue to use the same equipment and not have to go through the setup process all over again. The only thing that need to change would be the Xfinity Account and User in charge of billing at this address (and therefore the payment method), but ideally the service plan and address would remain the same, so my roommate could take over administration and payment for the WiFi services that are already in place.

Is this possible to do without having to to start from scratch? We're hoping to avoid creating a coverage gap and having to dismantle and return the router and all of the equipment that came with the initial plan in order to go through setup from the beginning with her account...

Hey there, @user_2d8b4f. Thank you for your detailed post and for being a valued Xfinity customer! Moving is tough enough, and yes, you can transfer ownership of your account. We understand there might be times when you'll need to transfer ownership of your Comcast account. You can use self-service options and begin the process online here. Our Digital Care Team can help with this too! Please let us know if further assistance is needed, or if you run into any issues along the way. Thank you!

@XfinityThomasA Hi, I'm a little confused about the process here, since I don't want to transfer my full account over to my roommate, just the WiFi plan/current services. Additionally looking at the link you attached, I'm wondering where to go from here since I neither want to close my account permanently nor transfer a different account to me. I could have her fill that form out, but would that mean she would effectively gain ownership of my account and billing info?

Again to clarify, I would like to transfer the management and payment for our current WiFi plan from my existing Xfinity account to another user's account. Thanks!

@XfinityThomasA Hi I also have the same question. The link you provided above is for bereavement. Should I use this link for transferring to someone else?

Thank you very much for reaching out to us here @user_wfx4mq. The information in that link will be the same for any reason that an account ownership change is needed, including roommates moving or military deployments as well as other life-changing events. You would also have the option to visit any Xfinity service center and submit an account ownership change request if you have your identification and the person taking ownership is with you to provide their information.

Does it cost any transfer/reinstallation fees to transfer account ownership?

@user_x1u822 There shouldn't be any charges as you're just transferring the account to another person. Since the services would still be active, then no additional installation fees would be required.

Yes, @user_2d8b4f. This process will transfer ownership of your Comcast account. It will absolve you of ownership of the Xfinity account, and transfer that ownership to your roommate, making your roommate responsible for the account. It will allow the services and equipment on the account to remain unchanged. Meaning your roommate would not have to create their own account from scratch, and they wouldn't need to get new equipment either.

There is a process to change user roles on your Xfinity account. However, changing user roles does not change ownership meaning you'd still be the account holder and financially responsible. Does this info help?

@XfinityThomasA Is there a way to transfer the services and equipment to another, pre-existing Xfinity account, instead? I would like to maintain ownership of my own Xfinity account since it's under my name, is attached to my personal email, and has my billing information associated.

Or would this process completely transform my existing account into a new one? For example, can she change the username and email linked to the account as well as the billing info?

In order to help ease confusion, you can cancel the account and have your roommate create their own account. Alternatively, you can use the Change Account Ownership process linked above. This would remove your name as the account holder only and be updated to change the account holder name to your roommate. All other information will remain the same inside the account.

As you will be moving across the country, if you wish to keep Xfinity as your service provider, you would need to create an account as we are unable to transfer services across divisions and markets.

Regardless of the decision you make, I would recommend removing any billing and payment methods that may be saved on the account. If you activate a new account when you move, with permission from the account holder on both accounts, we can transfer your Xfinity ID to your new account.
