Security block preventing access to payment portal

I have a security block on my account that is preventing me from being able to pay my bill online or by any electronic access. I have been through many rounds of troubleshooting with chat, phone, and in-person support at a retail store. None of these methods are able to resolve the issue. I need a high-level person with authority and access to remove the block from my account. That is the only way. No regular-level support person is going to be able to fix this issue--it's already been tried countless times. I am ready to file complaints with the BBB and FTC because of my frustration for all the time I have spent going in circles and re-explaining the problem over and over again without resolution.

Hey @yoregano, Thank you for visiting our official Xfinity Forums Community support page. While we would be unable to remove any blocks or security locks on the account, but if this is a basic access issue, we can certainly assist in troubleshooting.

If you do have any blocks or security locks, you would need to call our main support line at 1-800-XFINITY and ask to be transferred to our Customer Security Assurance (CSA) team for further review.

Are you able to successfully log in to the Xfinity App and/or web portal online? If you are able to successfully log in, what error code/message is being received when attempting to access the billing and payment area?

Please walk us through all the steps you take along with any messaging that might be displayed so we can best assist in troubleshooting.

It's an exercise in frustration and near futility trying to get anywhere by calling 1800XFINITY. I have tried more than once.

I can log in. I can see my account status, check rewards, etc. The issue happens when I click the "Make a Payment" button/tab. When I do, at the address https://payments.xfinity.com/new, I get a page that says, "You'll need to make a payment in person - Please visit an Xfinity Store near you."

Nobody at basic chat, phone, or in-person support at an Xfinity store seems to be able to do anything to remove the block. This is clearly a matter that only someone with high authority and access can help. I had to pay my last bill in person at a store, at the kiosk, with cash--even the kiosk would no allow any form of electronic payment.

The other part of this issue which is absolutely outrageous and unacceptable, is that this block was applied to my account with no explanation. I had to begin the process of all kinds of troubleshooting to finally reach the conclusion that it is a security block, not a billing issue, not tech issue per se. Having a system that locks down any account access without telling the customer why and how to rectify the problem is grievously awful customer service.

@yoregano To confirm, have you had any failed or returned payments? Xfinity adds a payment restriction when:

Two or more payments are returned for the same payment type (EFT or credit card) within 180 days.

A payment over $500 is returned.

The first payment that isn’t a deposit payment is returned.

No, no payment returns or issues. I had been paying my bill the same way for years, with prepaid cards (cards with a fixed balance and shorter expiration date). I get lots of these cards as incentives for doing surveys. So the actual card used is different every month, but the payment has always applied. A rep at the Xfinity store told me that security protocols may have become stricter or otherwise changed to cause a block to be applied. But regardless, the payments have always applied and my account has not been delinquent or otherwise affected. It was only suddenly with last month's bill that the problem started. If the payment goes through without any problems, it is ridiculous for Xfinity to apply a security block.

Thank you for sharing that background detail with me. The security protocols the store rep mentioned are system safeguards. Because our billing system is designed to protect customer financial data, it automatically looks for patterns to prevent unauthorized card testing or fraud. When a system notices a completely new card number, expiration date, and security code being used every single month, it can flag that routine as a security risk and trigger an the block for your account's protection.

Yes, that is likely what happened. But it is odd that I was able to pay my bill in this manner for years without issue until it suddenly appeared. And it remains absolutely unacceptable that the block was applied to my account without any explanation or recourse.

Regardless, once it is realized that the block is unnecessary, someone MUST remove it from my account. Expecting a customer to have to travel to a physical store and pay with cash for a period of... who knows how long... is asinine.

For what it's worth, I pay many of my utility bills in this same manner with no issues.

I received a call from an account specialist who explained what is happening. While the issue has not been yet resolved, at least it has been escalated to the right department and the case is being pursued.
