Your best bet is to add the $10/day Global Travel Pass to each of your phones now as this makes sure that you are setup for international roaming. However, it may be less expensive to just turn off cellular data and use pay-as-you-go for calls and SMS, and  use WiFi when you need data. In this case Remove/Turn-off the GTP.

You can also just use WiFi Calling which you should enable before you travel if you haven’t already been using it, as this is the least expensive way.

Make sure you understand the difference between Airplane Mode on/off, Cellular Data on/off, Roaming On/Off.

Hi, I am planning to do international travel as well and all I am looking for is to receive messages. Will WIFI calling will help here or should I turn on GTP ? I won't need data / cellular / roaming during this travel, since I will have a number local to the countries I visit.

@user_8680ce Maybe Add then Remove GTP so that you know it can be added again if you need it in an emergency and aren’t on WiFi Calling. I think that when you turn off Calls you also turn off SMS. I suggest you add WhatsApp to your phone for messaging and calls as over 2 billion people already use it for calls and messaging while roaming. If you have a dual SIM phone I would add a Truphone data only eSIM if you don’t add a local SIM.
