Phone drops in middle of Wi-Fi call

Hello,

My iPhone has been dropping calls when I am using Wi-Fi calling. I won’t hear the person talking suddenly, then the call will fail and I notice in the left hand corner of the screen it will now say “Xfinity Mobile” instead of “XM Wi-Fi” as when I started, like it switched suddenly. It happened during a 911 call. I called support and they had me do a network reset which seemed to help but now it is doing it again. Is there anything else I can try?

WiFi Calling requires a strong consistent connection which can be interrupted by household appliances, walls, and so on if you move around too much.

Also, lesser known, is that if your WiFi connection moves from one SSID (name) to another, OR it switches from one frequency to another (say 2.4Mhz to another) it tends to drop your call. Check your WiFi setup and see if you can limit your WiFi router(s) to one SSID and one frequency, at least for mobile phone use. See if that helps.

@DaveO3 Thank you for your help, I do see on my Wi-Fi router there is a 2.4 ghz and 5 ghz and both lights blink at different times so maybe it is switching back and forth. I just need to figure out how to get in to the settings.

@user_fed444 Good afternoon! Thank you for reaching out to our Community Forums Team for assistance with your iPhone and Wi-Fi Calling. I understand how important it is to be able to use your services as you need them.I want to be sure to get this resolved for you as quickly as possible. Before we begin, are there any other troubleshooting steps you have taken aside from a network reset? Also, is this happening just with your Wi-Fi Calling, and not your regular calls? I look forward to assisting you this evening!

@XfinityKassie I have tried turning on/off airplane mode, turning off cell data when I make calls but calls still drop. I am not in a good cell service area so my calls break up if I am not using wi-if calling. I haven’t yet tried looking at the wi-fi router for possible signal switching as the first respondent describes above but am willing to try. I am not sure how to do that though. Thank you for your help.

Calls drop when I am sitting directly in front of the wi fi router so I know it’s not a wall or appliance causing the issue.

@XfinityPeterH Hi Peter, I called and spoke with an Xfinity rep last Tuesday 9/13 but he wasn’t able to solve the issue. He said he’d investigate what it might be and call me back but I haven’t heard back. Is there someone else who can help? It happened again today twice in one call. Thank you

@XfinityPeterH do you think we need a new Wi-Fi router? Ours is from Xfinity and we’ve had it a few years. It works great for everything else though. The calls dropping is the only issue.
