free 20GB/mo of prioritized data?

this seems like a mistake. I got a text that I now have 20GB/mo of prioritized data on my xfinity mobile line.

It doesn't seem like a spammy text, no broken english, not from a weird email address, and its not asking me to click anything.

anybody get the same?

user_2eb788 Thank you for reaching out so we can answer your questions about the 20 GB of prioritized Xfinity Mobile data. Prioritized data means faster speeds and less buffering, especially in busy areas like concerts and sporting events. Our By The Gig customers can recieve up to 20 GB of prioritized data. This does not increase your monthly data allowance, and By The Gig customers will be subject to the same data usage rates.

Our Unlimited Xfinity Mobile customers have different thresholds of prioritized network data, depending on the unlimited tier they subscribe to.

umm, i'm sorry, that is not what the message means. Here is the actual full text of the message:

Xfinity Mobile: Great news! We are now giving you 20 GB/mo of prioritized data on this line at no extra cost, so you can get an even faster, more reliable connection. Just restart your phone and enjoy.

Txt help or stop
Msg&DataRatesMayApply

Any person reading this would understand this to mean that they now have an extra 20GB of prioritized data that they did not have before, and that using it would not incur any extra cost.

At best, this was a mistake message that Xfinity is not owning up to.

At worst, it is an attempt to trick users into using data above their plan and needing to pay more

This is definitely misleading. It should have specified that this does not increase your data plan. Most people don’t know that the qualifier of “prioritized” means. It could just be construed as a marketing term like “our great data”.  This is not cool.

I also got this on all my phones, one of which is on an Unlimited plan. I would like to know what this even means. Do my by-the-gig phones now get 20GB/mo? What do they mean by "prioritized data"? Is this the bait part of the standard Comcast bait and switch?

Really does appear like bait and switch as the 'offer' of 20G of  prioritized data is very misleading. The explanation of 'prioritized' data made my eyes glaze over and I still said "huh?"We are seniors on fixed income and share 1G and use WIFI unless its absolutely necessary to turn data on like in a business that does not have WIFI and I turn it off quickly when I am done as it takes no time at all to go over 1G so we are very careful. Made a mistake once and was really upset when I got the bill.   Also we live in a large metro area but never find hotspots which is annoying. If I am lucky at doc's office, lab,etc I can sign on to their WIFI network but that does always give me internet access.  All we ask is for Xfinity to be clear about what they 'offer'  and not use 'Xfinity speak'. Talk to us like we know nothing......its ok.

I got the same text message today.   I just spoke with a representative at Xfinity Mobile and they said there is no change to my service plan and since there is no link should just be safe to delete.   Suggested that restarting the phone as the text says, shouldn't do anything to the data.

Hey there user_pfg7lk. It is just an informative text about the data for your mobile. Here is some additional information about the data. https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/how-does-by-the-gig-work

If the consumer protection services hadn't been gutted, I'd have filed a complaint. All 5 lines on my plan got a text saying that "we are now giving you 20 gb/mo of prioritized data on this line at no extra cost." But I separately got an email - only to me - saying that "your Unlimited lines" were upgraded at no cost. All 5 lines share a single gigabyte and I'm on the hook personally to pay any overage, and this conflicting messaging seems almost custom designed to get people to start using data thinking that it's free and then slam them with a giant bill. Particularly since 5 people were told direct to their phone that it's a 20gb/mo free-for-all and only 1 person got a message buried in their email that there was secretly a caveat.

Since Xfinity sent this email, everyone who received it should receive the "20GB at no additional charge". Not to give that service sounds like a Consumer Protection violation!

@spence023 So CLEARLY that many are confused. It's intentionally misleading language. Bait and switch.

Mp3junk3y If you have 20 GB of prioritized data on your Xfinity Mobile line, it means that you can enjoy faster speeds and less buffering until you reach that limit. This applies to various plans, including By the Gig and Unlimited options. Prioritized data is especially beneficial in congested areas like concerts and sporting events, ensuring a better experience until the threshold is reached.

Yea..dream on..when does xfinity ever upgrade anything useful without a huge bump in $$$. It really means nothing unless you're in a high cell usage area and using free wifi.....then...supposedly you get "first dibs"...now if you're like me..the 1GB is all you get unless you pay for unlimited

One of the many reasons I will be leaving Xfinity!

Since I've joined, there have been a 20000% increase in price, customers service is laughable, and the sending messages of service they say I have but don't.

I can get unlimited talk & text, + 1 gig of data for way less!

@user_f4e228 The way they do it with Internet service is they raise your speed "at no cost to you", then raise the rates a year or so later. If you call them, you can get back to your previous data rate and cost, but it takes some work.

I agree completely that this email is super misleading and could easily lead someone to believe that their data cap has been raised.

Hey @user_f4e228. Thank you for visiting our official Xfinity Forums Community support page. It sounds like you may have also received the SMS notification as well. Depending on the level of Xfinity Mobile data plan, By-The-Gig, the lower tier Unlimited plans, and NOW Mobile can receive priority data. This helps place the data plans in line with our more current plans. This does however mean that if you are on the By-The-Gig data plan, that you are still charged for every gigabyte of data usage. If there happens to be anything we could assist you with, please let us know.

As others have said, the wording of the text is extremely (and likely intentionally) misleading.  "We are now giving you 20 GB/mo of prioritized data on this line at no extra cost" is vastly different than "the data that we charge you $20/GB/month for is now 'prioritized' data" or simply "your data allotment has been upgraded to 'prioritized' data."

This is clearly Xfinity trying to confuse and scam customers into using extra data and then gaslighting them into believing that a text message that says you've received 20 gigs of free priority data means that you still have to pay for it. Utter nonsense!

I tend to ascribe things like this to incompetence rather than malevolence, but it pretty clearly falls in line with their previous tricks. I believe I read that By-the-Gig was being phased out, and this could be a way to nudge people out of it, after they misread the text and go nuts on their data for a month (20G x $20/G = Holy Guacamole!). I would love to see the stats on data usage over the next month.

@12xuser  Customers love our mobile plan options, and the flexibility they have in choosing By the Gig, or Unlimited at anytime during the month. If a customer knows they will go beyond a gig of data, they can easily sign in to their account to make the switch in a couple minutes. Then they can also go back the next month if they prefer. Check out the steps here https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/how-to-switch-data-options.

@XfinityBenny

You know what customers DON’T love? Scammy text messages from their cell phone provider that misleads them into thinking their plan now has more data than they did before, which causes some family members to stop being careful with their data usage and results in EXTRA data charges. This is [Edited: "Language"] and you know it

Thank you for reaching out here @user_f7928c.  All Xfinity Mobile and NOW Mobile customers will receive at least 20 GB of prioritized unlimited data per month at no extra cost. To begin using this premium data, customers who have received an email or text message can turn their phone off and on or turn their phone’s airplane mode on and off.

I shut my phone off at least twice a week and reboot it whenever it gets stuck on stupid. So does this mean that the next time I need to restart my phone I am automatically agreeing to this? Shouldn't there be a way to opt out of this? Everyone needs to ocassionally restart their phone therefor they are forcing people to accept this "gift".

@user_rusaui  Xfinity Mobile provides 20 GB of prioritized data per line on mobile plans. This means that for the first 20 GB of data used each month, your connection will receive priority, resulting in faster speeds and less buffering, especially in crowded areas. It is part of the service, there is nothing to restart, agree to, or receive physically.

I use an eSIM for data only and setup my phone to use the data eSIM instead of Xfinity data. $20 for 1 GB is a rip-off. [Edited: "Soliciting"]

Totally confusing email that is legit but sounded like ' Internal Comcast tech speak' and certainly not explained in a way the 'average' customer would have a clue about what it really meant. Their website explanation was vague too. We see ' 20G at no extra charge' and I guess they figured we would jump for joy but the word 'prioritized'.....huh?
