Charged $100+ in roaming fees when I didnt turn roaming on!

Today I got a bill saying I owe $100+ in roaming fees. I traveled to El Salvador on March 6, 2024 and never turned roaming on, never. As soon as I landed I bought a plan through my second Salvadoran simcard and purchased a prepaid internet package in El Salvador.

I never turned roaming on, I was using the Salvadoran e-sim all the time. I did not take the xfinity simcard off my.phone because I had turned the wifi calling feature on which provides free text and calls using wifi. Despite doing this I still got charged roaming and got a bill today saying I owe more than $100!!!

I did not authorize this roaming fee, I was using wifi calling which is supposed to be FREE to be able to receive text and calls from the U.S. and used my local internet package from the second simcard to browse.

I had to take the xfinity simcard from my phone tonight after seeing that bill as I'm afraid it will continue adding charges. Please remove them, or I will have to contact the better business line, I can't afford to pay roaming that I didn't authorize. I will not insert this simcard anymore until I'm back to the U.S. which is super inconvenient.

I have spent hours even taking them to where it says free of charge to make a call or text a US number

Three sources show it is free of charge, but they do. Trap

1- https://www.xfinity.com/hub/mobile/wifi-calling-101

WiFi calling is free when you call U.S. numbers from anywhere in the world.

2- https://www.xfinity.com/mobile/policies/wifi-calling

Any Wi-Fi call made to a U.S. number will be treated as a domestic call, no matter where the call originates.

3- https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/what-is-wifi-calling

WiFi calling becomes even more useful when you're traveling internationally. You can use it to call and send text messages to U.S. numbers for free when you're in another country, saving you international long distance charges.

Calling U.S. numbers:

  • WiFi calling is available at no extra charge when you call U.S. numbers from anywhere in the world.

At the end, they wanted to offer to make me going with installments. This is funny right. I will never let it go if it is for penny.

I will definitely bring this up to FTC and let them handle it.
