on-demand audio sounds like its coming thru a megaphone

on multiple televisions, 2 hd, 1 analog, when i watch xfinity on-demand movies on showtime/hbo (as opposed to a movie on a 3rd party app like tubi), the sound is high in treble and comes across hollow, almost as if being spoken through a megaphone. it is very distracting and negatively affects the watching experience to the point of having to turn the program off. i have experienced it fairly often lately with multiple movies (no way out, romance and cigarettes, killing them softly for example) as well as tv series (city on a hill and flatbush misdemeanors for example) and have been forced to record the movie or show to dvr when it airs, in order to be able to watch it (the sound issue never happens on aired programs, only on-demand). has anyone else experienced this? anyone know of a cause or solution? any help would be appreciated, thanks.
