Acorn TV on-demand is not displaying closed captioning

I watched Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries but the closed captioning did not work. The system indicated it was turned on but nothing displayed. I tried many times.

I watched the first episode months ago & the CC worked, but not sure if that was on Acorn or a different free on-demand channel.

Any idea how to get this working?

user_793642 Thanks for reaching out to us about the CC not working for the show you are trying to watch. Have you been able to see if the episode you are wanting to watch has the CC available? It's rare, but sometimes there is something on that comes out without it being an option until a little later when they get it added. Can you also tell me if it was On Demand, or the network itself you were watching it when it wasn't available?

I started recording the programs from PBS & the those have CC. But I missed the first 6 episodes & am able to watch those On Demand via Acorn TV and those do not have CC.

Well, they don't have CC if watching in HD. For the heck of it I tried the SD mode & it does have CC. These are both from On Demand Acorn & I get to choose HD or SD. The HD comes up by default and of course that's what I want.

In SD mode the picture is displayed in letterbox format & stretched horizontally. I can change the TV settings to view 4:3 and get a windowboxed picture with black all around.

There does not seem to be a way to get a full height pillarboxed 4:3 picture.

Unless there is something you can do on your end, I'll have to watch those On Demand episodes with a small 4:3 picture if I want CC.

I hope my explanation makes sense.

user_793642 It does. We aren't able to add CC to anything ourselves. That is set up by the networks that broadcast the shows.

@user_793642  I use CC when I watch TV as well, so I understand how important it's to have those accessibility features. There's feedback you can leave via the Acorn website. Under contact us you can leave a customer service review about adding closed captioning to their  shows.  Did you have any addition questions or concerns for us?
