ordered cable and landline service - cable working, questions about landline

Ordered cable and landline service only. Equipment received yesterday and got cable tv connected yesterday. In the order there was a larger modem and a smaller modem. Used the larger modem to connect to the tv. Is the smaller modem for the landline service connection point? The smaller modem (box) doesn't have a phone jack connection so I am thinking that this possibly may be a second cable box for another tv. No telephone handsets have been delivered by Xfinity? Should I wait on telephone handsets or order phones from Amazon? Assistance from xfinity customer support would be appreciated so that my older relatives will have a way to connect in case of emergencies.
