How to hook up land line with Xfinity

I will be receiving a phone call from Xfinity to set up a friend's land line with her Xfinity. I am trying to research how to do it prior to getting the call from Xfinity to walk me thru it. All the videos I see say just connect your main phone cord to the modem. My question is that the modem is up high on a shelf in a closet and the main corded phone is in another room. I can’t keep the phone up in the closet where the modem is but also I can’t connect the modem in the other room where the phone is. Is there an easy fix?

Hello @user_9hlj7t, Thanks so much for taking a moment out of your day to leave a post on our community forum and we would be happy to help. To set up Xfinity home phone (VoIP), you need an active Xfinity internet, a compatible gateway/modem with phone ports, and a phone; connect your phone to the "TEL 1" port on the gateway, or run a cable from the gateway to an existing phone jack to activate all jacks in the house, then activate the service online or via app and test your 911 service, remembering to keep your old phone service active during number porting if applicable.

Step-by-Step Setup:
  1. Connect the Gateway: Ensure your Xfinity modem/gateway is powered on and connected to the internet.
  2. Connect Your Phone:
    • Single Phone: Plug your phone directly into the "TEL 1" port on the Xfinity gateway.
    • Multiple Phones: Run a standard phone cord from the "TEL 1" port on the gateway to your home's nearest phone jack; this energizes all jacks in the house.
  3. Activate Service:
    • Open a browser and go to www.xfinity.com/activate or use the Xfinity app to activate.
    • Follow prompts to enter account info and activate the line.
  4. Port Your Number (If Applicable): Submit a port request via the Xfinity app or website; keep your old service active until the port is complete (7-10 days) to avoid losing the number.
  5. Test 911: Dial 911 (using a different phone if necessary) and confirm your address with the dispatcher to ensure emergency services work correctly.
