Like other Flex users, I get a brief error msg about either nextflix or youtubetv the show will play for a short time after the msg appears then it goes black with the home screen appearing.

I'm having the same problem. Even chatted with tech when it first happened. They reset the box, but that didn't resolve problem.
Hey @user_bf2b65, thank you for letting us know you're having the issue with the apps as well. When the black screen pops up, is there any error message or code you've noticed? Also, have you been having an internet problems that may be related since it is with streaming?
