Unlock port 25

I need port 25 unblocked for inbound and outbound traffic. I called technical support yesterday and spent two hours on the phone explaining what I wanted without success. This is very frustrating as we were customers of Frontier and they unblocked port 25 for me. Please unblock port 25 as I don't want to have to go through the hassle of switching back to Frontier.  Until this is unblocked we are without email.

We read and understand and will comply with the text posted below.

Few caveats to this being unblocked for you - you are responsible for all traffic over port 25 to/from your network. Abuse of this port(by you directly or not) will result in the loss of the port and remove access to the port going forward. Further specifics for what would lead to the loss of port 25 are listed within the Acceptable Use Policy under "Prohibited Uses and Activities" here: https://www.xfinity.com/corporate/customers/policies/highspeedinternetaup

  1. Side note: changing modems, restarting it, any downtime of the modem whatsoever may lead to a loss of access to the port. Should you need to re-apply the unblock you will need to contact our department at 888-565-4329.

I see people asking about it, but if the email/domain is important,  an ISP with a port 25 block and a DHCP pool is going to cause you some grief for a couple of reasons.

1st one is every time your IP address changes due to a power fail or work in your area, you are going to have to change DNS records for the MX server, but you'll find yourself going through the port 25 unblock problem you got now again, so mail loss/mail delay.

The next problem you got, is nobody wants your mail because it originated from an ISP's public DHCP pool.  You'll find SORBS blocking most of those, spamcop and spamhaus usually aren't far behind, as well as Baracuda and other common free/paid services.  We're all using RBLs in some way, plus our own rules and auto-reporting.  Look up your current IP address currently on a multi-RBL checker and see who's not going to take your mail.  Hits propagate to others.

For cheap, around $10/year, you can get an email redirect service that will relay mail to the unblocked port of your choice.  Your MX record points to them, they forward to you on an alternate port.  For sending, configure your mail server to authenticate/submit to port 587 through Xfinity's mail servers (auth required) -- if you don't have a hosted mail server/VPS/EC2 instance yourself somewhere else you can use for SMTP.  You still have to update the port redirect when your IP changes, but you can add dynamic DNS on a few of them for a few bucks more.  Even manually changing the IP at the forwarder is still way faster than multi-level Xfinity support nightmares.

Since the redirected mail is going to look like it originated from a host you trust, you'll have to do spam/virus content checking by other means.  Amavisd-new or some other parser.  Don't bounce spam/virus mail back to your email forwarder or you'll tick them off, discard or quarantine it instead.

Your email will be more reliable this way, which is what you want for an email server.
