Thunderbird access to comcast email no longer working
Hi! All of a sudden my comcast.net email is no longer accessible through Thunderbird--it claims I'm not using the correct password, even though none of the settings have changed. I can still access my email through webmail, using the same password. What's happened?

Hey Jeff ,
You are not alone my friend , on my older iPad the message is : Updated 9/26/19
Account error : Comcast . Details . When I tap details I get this message :
Cannot get mail , no password provided for Comcast ; Please go to Mail settings and enter a password .
My Mail settings are correct & the Mail works on my other devices and online . It's been quite challenging to find out what the issue is on the Support website , no matter which keywords I enter the results aren't relevant .
I truly wish that I had a more effective reply for you .

Email not able to login with Thunderbird or Android Email. Keeps asking for a new password that's good, but won't login.
Web based email login OK.

Thunderbird is STILL NOT WORKING with Comcast email.
Has Comcast locked out Thunderbird?
I keep getting the "Login to server imap.comcast.net with username xxxxx@comcast.net failed" pop-up message, asking me to "Retry, Enter New Password, or Cancel", none of those have any effect. My Comcast emails are just DOA.
Web based Comcast emails are working just fine, but Android Email has stopped working.
These are my Thunderbird (Ver 128.10.2esr (64-bit)) settings:
Server Settings
Server name: imap.comcast.net
Port # : 993
User name : xxxxx@comcast.net
Connection Security: SSL/TLS
Authentication Method: Normal password
SMTP (Outgoing) Server Settings
Server name: smtp.comcast.net
Port # : 465
User name : xxxxxx
Connection Security: SSL/TLS
Authentication Method: Normal password

Similar issue, Thunderbird fails on imap access. TB shows looking up imap.comcast.net, then connected to imap.comcast.net and then times out. I have tried all the above options but no luck. My setting have been static for at least 4 years, no VPN. XfinityWilliam, we are not asking you to troubleshoot 3rd party programs, we are asking you to look at your side. Using the Xfinity guidelines posted in your support pages have worked for a very long time, what has changed on the Xfinity mail servers to inhibit Thunderbird access.

I too am having this problem. I have been using Thunderbird for years (decades?) under Ubuntu Linux with no problems, and no configuration changes. Suddenly, it thinks my password is bad, even though it accepts the same password when I access my email through a browser on the web interface. It seems that my troubles began when I was away from home (like gwws above at the B&B) but the problem persists back at home with my old WiFi. No VPN. It looks like the TB client does not even try to connect anymore (at some point I stopped even getting the "bad password" error), or it gives up instantaneously, which makes me suspect that Comcast has blacklisted my IP address, as suggested above. I suppose it's possible that TB changed something in a recent client software update, but I think it is more likely that Comcast is pulling some shenanigans on their end.

I had the same problem as OP. I'm using the macOS version, and when I went into the Debugger Tools, I got this error after trying to enter the password:
I wasn't on a VPN, but I live in Japan and so that may be what's causing it.
I got on a VPN with a US IP address, entered the password again, and I was able to start receiving my messages again in Thunderbird.

Well, for the past several weeks, Thunderbird is now working again. I did nothing (settings, etc.) to re-enable it.
One circumstantial coincidence, on a few occasions, I had kept Xfinity Email open in Firefox in a separate window, and in some instances, if I brought up TB, it worked. Conversely, if I closed the Xfinity page, TB would stop working. This scenario didn't work all the time, but enough to wonder if having Firefox "connected" to Xfinity servers, opened up something in TB to allow it to get emails. This may all be hocus pocus, but I thought I'd mention it anyway.

I intermittently get " Sending of the message failed. An error occurshdfnbd while sending mail: Outgoing server (SMTP) error. The server responded: resomta-a2p-647655.sys.comcast.net resomta-a2p-647655.sys.comcast.net Excessive failed authentication, ESMTP server temporarily not available. " Sometimes it works, other times no.
When I just killed Norton VPN in response to another comment, it started working
