Is this legit?

I received an email today:

X finity

It's time to update your Comcast-Xfinity account

I started to do just blindly do this, but when I clicked on the hyperlink, the password box did not hide my password, so I stopped and returned to the email.  I noted that xfinity has never sent an email with "X finity" written like that and language is sketchy such as one of the sentences did not begin with a capital letter.  I checked the source  "Return-Path: [Edited: "Phishing Email"]" does not seem valid.
Can you please confirm that this is a fake request - I've moved it into spam.  Thanks

Hey @user_9c0645, Thank you for taking the time to reach out. If you are using the Xfinity Email web portal, the Verification badge that @BruceW would let you know if from an official Xfinity source. The email also does not look valid as it says "Dear Mail user". As a general rule, you should take any questionable emails and report as spam. You can also visit our Xfinity Email web portal directly and if anything is needed such as TOS updates and more, a notificational pop-up should populate for verification. Thanks for the help @BruceW

... you will need to Confirm you accept the Terms of Service ...

Don't do it! The email is a scammer phishing message. For any message to a Comcast.net address that claims to be from Comcast/Xfinity, check your email with Xfinity Connect webmail (https://connect.xfinity.com/) and look for the XFINITY Verified Email logo. If the logo is missing when you view the message in webmail, the message is not from Comcast/Xfinity. Note that anyone can insert an "Verified" image in the body of an email, so it's important to note not only the presence of that image, but that it is in the correct locations:

  • proceeding the email subject line in the list of emails
  • above the subject line when the email is opened.

See https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/comcast-verified-email for examples of valid logo placement. A logo in the body of the email does not count.

Unfortunately, AFAIK the logo is not present when you view one of their messages in an email app or program. It's only visible when you view their web email site in a browser.

Scammers:  Over a period of 6 weeks, I have gotten several very legitimate looking emails claiming to be from XF saying I need to change my credit card for auto-pay and please "click here".  Nope, ain't gonna do it...

Thanks, Bruce - I didn't know about the verified logo and appreciate the explanation concerning it.  I will definitely be checking for that in the future!
