Heads up - scam "Xfinity" emails on the rise

Hi. For those who may not know about this stuff... I have gotten a few emails in the last few days, which on the surface appear to be from Infinity. but are really not. Things like:

You have a new readable voicemail from (530) 885-****  -- PLAY MESSAGE

It’s time to update your Xfinity account --  CLICK HERE TO UPDATE NOW!

And so on. They come with clickable links, and try and make you think they are legit emails from Xfinity, but again - they are not. If you HOVER over the link, you will see it is not a legit Xfinity address, and if you look at the "from" address (where the email was sent from), you will see they are not coming from a valid Xfinity address. They are usually going to be from gmail or yahoo.

DO NOT CLICK ON ANY OF THESE LINKS. Doing so opens your computer to malware, viruses, and ransomware. Just delete the email.

... DO NOT CLICK ON ANY OF THESE LINKS ...

Excellent advice. I would add that, for any message that claims to be from Comcast/Xfinity, users check their email with Xfinity Connect webmail (https://connect.xfinity.com/) and look for the XFINITY Verified Email logo. Note that anyone can insert an "Verified" image in the body of an email, so it's important to note not only the presence of that image, but that it is in the correct locations:

  • proceeding the email subject line in the list of emails
  • above the subject line when the email is opened.

See https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/comcast-verified-email for examples of valid logo placement. A logo in the body of the email does not count.

If the logo is missing when you view the message in webmail, the message is not from Comcast. Unfortunately, AFAIK the logo is not present when you view one of their messages in an email app or program. It's only visible when you view their web email site in a browser.

Samples of recent phishing messages can be found at https://internetsecurity.xfinity.com/help/alerts under "Top Phishing Scams".

You'd think their SPAM filters could figure out anything that seems to imply Comcast/Xfinity that doesn't come from them would be tagged. But then, Comcast is doing everything they can to eventually shut down their email service...

I received a voicemail today (Feb 24, 2025) directing me to call a 400 number. I'm in Eugene, OR. If I didn't call today I would lose my 50% off of Wi-Fi. That statistic wasn't quite right but I figured I better call and double check. So this scam was specifically targeting people receiving the subsidy, pretty low. When I called it took me through a totally realistic phone tree. That hooked me back in. Then I got a professional sounding guy with a slightly Irish accent. He had me confirm my address and knew I pay $15 for Wi-Fi. He said  my current total for cell service and wi-fi would double starting next month. But not to worry, there was a new promotion which would offer both services for only $30 a month if I agreed to pay for 2 years worth upfront, though it would not be a contract and I would get my money back prorated if I decided to quit. Had to decide by tomorrow. I got aggro bc I felt pushed around and he got aggro back (another red flag). I hung up on him then realized it was a scam. I reported it to Comcast but I doubt it got to higher ups fast enough to do anything about it. I wish they were sending out warning messages. I hate to think how many low income people just paid that guy $700.

@user_pbnia5 , I'm afraid I too got this message (starting April 8, 2025 and concluded April 10. 2025) and fell for it. I've since reported it to Xfinity, law enforcement and FTC. However, I've been told by Target, that because I purchased 6 Target gift cards that already were at -0- balance, Target could not refund my purchases. I wish I had been more diligent.

I've gotten text messages saying that my Comcast.net email account will be closed and to activate it.   Not sure if it's a scam or not.  Link for email is: https://t.xfinity.com/emalactivity.  This isn't the site I log into to get on my account.  I can sign in to my Xfinity account with no problem to pay the bill.   How do I reactivate it or is this a scam?

Greetings, @user_wjz7n6! I hope your week has been treating you well. Thanks so much for taking a moment out of your busy day to leave a post on our community forum about this text message. You have definitely come to the right place for assistance.

If your email account is being closed due to inactivity, you would just need to log in through the normal channels by going to http://my.xfinity.com/email, and that will keep you active. You shouldn't need to follow any particular link in this situation (even mine), although I would be wary of any link containing a misspelled word. The text may just be using a legitimate URL shortener, but it never hurts to be cautious. You can find more details about our email activity policy by visiting https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/email-activity.

I received and e-mail today that my account payment was overdue. Saying I hadn't paid since December 2024. I never click on links, I log into my account. And low and behold my account is up to date.

My husband received an email from a comcast.net address that said he had to agree to the new privacy policy, or his account would be inaccessible to him. There were links to click on but I advised him not to click on them. I have reached out to comcast about it.  I am hoping to hear back from them with a decisive answer.

Unless the email had the official Xfinity Logo it's most likely a phishing email.

1) alerting to possible scam

2) reporting issue with changing my xfinity/comcast security password 4/6/2025

I have received in the past few weeks a likely set of scam text messages with a link embedded https:// t.xfin .me (spaces added by me). They looked real as they referenced a recent payment made (how would that be known if it wasn't from Xfinity/Comcast?). I signed on from my own action to my web-based xfinity/comcast account and saw no issues.

Then another text message a few days later (today, 4/6/2025) which really made me think it was scam, as it had a link to ensure that my xfinity/comcast email did not expire from non-use (https:/ t. xfinity.com/ emailactivity -- spaces added by me). I again went online to my xfinity/comcast account and email page (not through the hyperlink provided in the text message). I tried to reset my security password, but the effort kept timing out. I was UNABLE to change my password.

The Xfinity data breach involved unauthorized access to the personal information of nearly 36 million customers, including names and partial Social Security numbers, due to a vulnerability in software provided by Citrix. This incident highlights significant risks associated with data security and its impact on affected individuals, particularly in vulnerable communities. And all they tell you is Oh change your password. This runs very deep. I open nothing from them NOTHING.. NOTHING Trust nothing. Credit freeze on everything. The freeze cost nothing. It is totally free. Just set it up with the big 3.

Thank you for your feedback @ASUS, unfortunately scams are all too common these days and safety is our top priority! Scammers use different tactics to try and get your information in various ways. It is important to always be cautious when clicking on any links. I always check emails for grammatical errors or signs that it could be a scam before click on anything.

Heads up for scammers asking you to pay up front using target or any other gift cards.  Do not fall for this.

Beware of scammers wanting you to pay upfront with gift cards.   Xfinity would not do that.
