Email Stopped Syncing

Comcast emails stopped syncing yesterday.  This is happening on both the phone using a 3rd part app, and the computer using Outlook.  When I try to repair the connection on Outlook, it says "We couldn't connect to the incoming (IMAP) server using the specified encryption method.  Please check the incoming (IMAP) server encryption method and try again."  My incoming server settings are: IMAP: imap.comcast.net PORT: 993 ENCRYPTION METHOD: SSL/TLS.  Outgoing server settings are: SMTP: smtp.comcast.net Port: 587 ENCRYPTION METHOD: STARTTLS.  I am able to access my web email and through the Xfinity app.  No settings have been changed in the past month.  I updated my 3rd party application on my phone to no avail.  I installed Outlook on my phone and was unable to add the comcast email to the app and I get an Unable to login message.  I also checked to ensure Third Part Access Security was enabled.  Please help!

I'm having the same issue.  Only get email through the Xfinity app.  Can't connect using Outlook.  It says IMAP connection not stable.

Add me to the list. I have three comcast.net email accounts in Outlook 2019. Only one of the three accounts is not downloading new emails as described by others "We couldn't connect to the incoming (IMAP) server using the specified encryption method." The malfunctioning account does send new emails just fine.

The other two comcast.net accounts are working correctly both send and receive. All three accounts have the identical pop3 and smtp settings.

I'm also using the Apple iOS mail app. All three accounts are sending and receiving correctly, but noticably much slower than normal. In fact, all of my internet connections through Xfinity are sluggish today!

Capemayman1 Thanks for reaching out about the email access issue, and yes we are transitioning emails to Yahoo. Do you know if yours has made the transistion at this time?

Facebook is also lighting up with people who can't sync their Comcast email.  Surely someone at Comcast has noticed this, right?

I have same issues with imap.comcast.net server timeouts since Monday morning, the 8th. Both Win10 PCs running Thunderbird, but also tried "Windows Live Mail" which has worked for may years.  I am able to log in to Xfinity via my chrome browser to view my emails.  I even tried using my iPhone as a hot spot to eliminate a possible problem with Spectrum with the same results.  I even did a "ipconfig /renew" and changed my DNS from default to Cloudflare 1.1.1.1 & 1.0.0.1, still times out.

HOWEVER, as I'm typing this (4:46 EST) I got a Thunderbird notification that IT DID JUST NOW RECEIVE SOME COMCAST EMAILS!!  First ones since late Sunday! Not holding my breath but maybe Xfinity did something?!  I will check back later after checking out more further.

Comcast must have done something as both mobile phones are now syncing to Xfinity email using the Edison Mail client.

Apparently xfinity figured it out ... my Comcast accounts started syncing Thursday afternoon and, even after shutting down last night, they resumed syncing as soon as I booted my system this morning.  Fingers crossed ... none of us need these types of critical complications in our lives.  Whether we like it or not, in today's world email access is just as important as having a working phone.  Thanks goes to the engineers at Xfinity for getting everything resolved.

As of late morning on Friday my Thunderbird PC app is receiving my Xfinity/Comcast emails.  Thank you Xfinity techs.

Question: are we still on the Comcast servers or are we moved to the Yahoo servers?  I have not received any emails regarding the move so far.

@TGray You're using the Comcast/Xfinity systems until you receive notifications that you are able to migrate *and* you have actually done so.  These messages should come from "updates.xfinity.com".

I SPOKE TOO SOON!  as of today I can't seem to send any emails via my Comcast account.  Within seconds I get a popup from Thunderbird:

"Sending of the message failed.
The message could not be sent because the connection to Outgoing server (SMTP) smtp.comcast.net timed out. Try again."

I rebooted my PC, changed the DNS settings from Cloudflare I set yesterday (1.1.1.1 & 1.0.0.1) back to automatic; same problem. Can't send from Comcast.

I then tried sending from my Gmail account and it works fine, no errors.

Remember up until yesterday I was able to SEND email from my Comcast account, just couldn't RECEIVE  with it. Argh!

Hope this issue doesn't take another 4 days to resolve like the receive problem took...

One more thing - via Thunderbird I sent a test email from my gmail account to my Comcast account and it arrived in Comcast OK. So the Comcast IMAP server is still working fine but the SMTP server can't be reached.

@TGray I can see that you replied to a test email, and that was delivered properly.  Has there been more than one test message?  I see these coming from "j.d.e_____@comcast.net".

I have egg on my face! I figured out why I couldn't send from my Comcast address.  I took notes all week as I tried different changes that didn't resolve the imap receiving problem and realized I made a change to the smtp port# and didn't put it back!

With all my testing and troubleshooting the last few days, I had Googled "comcast smtp settings" and "AI" came back with "The Comcast (Xfinity) SMTP settings are: Server: smtp.comcast.net, Port: 587 (preferred) or 465, Security: STARTTLS or SSL/TLS for port 465."  I originally had my smtp port set to 465 but changed it to the preferred 587 for troubleshooting and didn't change it back. Big mistake.

Once I changed the smtp port number back to 465 I can now send.

Maybe 587 only works without SSL/TLS?? Or maybe SMTP port 587 has a problem?

Hey there TGray, thanks for posting on our community forums! I'm glad to see that it seems you were able to get your email working through Thunderbird again. Is it back working 100%, or are you still running into any other issues?
