Email access stopped working on all iOS devices

Monday, January 8 at around 10am, the email access for all my accounts across all iOS (iPhone and iPAD) stopped working for me and my wife's comcast email accounts.  I can still get email on my Mac and can log into the web email to access email so it is not a password issue.  I reviewed the third party access security guidance and the box is checked and made no difference if I unchecked and rechecked the box for access. I have no reason to believe that it is an end user issue given that email can be picked up via outlook on my Mac.

Last week, I did update my password per the notification of compromised accounts.  So not sure if that had anything to do with the issues.

I even deleted the account off my phone and tried to re-add it and the error was "your comcast email account is not available" or something like that.

Any suggestions? anyone else having this issue?

I have been having the same problem on both my iphone and ipad.  I can get mail if I use my carrier's network (xfinity mobile), but when I am connected to wifi, I cannot get mail.  This started on Feb 25.  I was also having the problem with my outlook 365 on my HP laptop at the same time but it corrected itself yesterday.

I have the same problem but I don’t have Xfinity Mobile.

Having the same problem on both iPhone and Macbook today for the first time. This is very discouraging that xfinity cannot offer help to a problem that is so widespread and randomly appears and disappears. Using the web client is not a solution for people who rely on their email for critical updates all day.

I am having the same issue with Comcast on ALL my mobile devices.  I have no separate VPN and can access my email online with no problem.  Just can’t access on iPhone or iPad.

@user_1vp2hl Thanks for connecting with us here about your email concerns on your iPhone and iPad. Have you deleted and reinstalled access to the emails on these devices?

I am having the same problem. YES - I deleted the account and added it back. YES - I am able to use the Xfinity web to access mail. Yes - I checked the 3rd party box on my iPhone. The error message states that my password is not entered however it is.

I had this problem multiple time with my bosses ipad, he likes to click on icons or change things then forgetfully not know what he did.  When trying to re-add his Comcast imap account, I kept getting the Comcast is unavailable error.  Turns out the VPN was on creating some firewall or hiccup with updating or re-adding his comcast account.  Once VPN was shut off and not turning back on automatically - I was able to successfully re-add his Comcast account with any further issues :)  I suggest going to Settings - Device management on your ipad and shutting off VPN and unchecking the box that says to automatically reconnect.  Good luck to all, hope this helps you!!!

This is what worked for me.  I recently bought Norton 360 for my computer and added it to my iphone as well.  With the Norton VPN "on," I was getting "Comcast unavailable" whenever I clicked on the email icon.  As soon as I turned off the VPN, it worked fine.

@denimvenuenaples Turning off the VPN doesn't work if you never had one set up. Any other ideas Comcast?

Was using my IPhone 11 with two accounts in the Mail app of the Iphone. One works fine (gmail) and comcast was fine until two days ago - I was in Mexico, and it stopped downloading emails, saying that there was an error, and the Mail app would try to "repair" it. No luck. Next said that the server imap.comcast.net was not responding. I was to check the account info in the Mail setting - which had NEVER changed. I deleted the account and readded it, and of course turned phone on and off. VPN is never on. Getting SAME message that the server (Comcast's incoming) is not responding. This is getting tedious. I have used this phone for two years, and other iphones before. This is the second time in 8 years, but not getting fixed in the typical usual ways. WHAT TO DO NOW? Thanks!

@user_d0ba62 Now when I re-add the account, it says "The IMAP server doesn't support Password authentification. Please check your account settings and try again". What in god's name does that mean? I can only hit "OK". Next says " Cannot connect using SSL" and "do you want to try setting up the account without SSL?" Yes or NO. This is painful. Please advise.

I upgraded the Os operating system to the newest one, and the message for the comcast email account in the Mail app now says "cannot get mail - Comcast currently unavailable". So what is up with Comcast on iphones and the Mail app?

Same problem as everyone and tried all suggestions. Issue is on IOS accounts as well as Android. COMCAST have become unsuasable and we are now having to change providers. This message is for COMCAST. ITS YOUR ISSUE SO RESOLVE IT. Please read the forum as people have this issue and the suggestions are so weak from COMCAST is laughable. I cannot believe this issue is still going on and getting worse.

The same thing just happened to me 2 days ago.  I went in and changed my password but still can't log in on my phone.  It says that comcast is unavailable...  I was worried my mail may have been hacked..

HELP!  PLEASE!

Same problem!   Mac/OS system accesses mail just fine, but IOS on iPhone can only access mail via the web, not the apple mail app. I've tried all the usual things to trouble shoot: OS is current, rebooted the phone, double checked that the passwords are correct (i.e. same on both systems) etc. Nothing works. the iPhone cannot send emails either.  The only thing I have not tried, and am hesitant to do, is delete the account on my phone and then re-add it.

HELP!  PLEASE!

Hello, tctimber thank you for taking time to reply to this post, I definitely understand the importance of being able to access your email on your mobile device. It sounds like you have already confirmed the settings/passwords are set up correctly: https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/email-client-programs-with-xfinity-email?linkId=128545976.

- Your 3rd party email access is also enabled correct?

https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/third-party-email-access.

I know you had some reservations about deleting and readding, I found this Xfinity Forums post that mentioned that some users devices had a VPN running in the background causing issues: https://forums.xfinity.com/conversations/email/solution-to-comcast-currently-unavailable-when-adding-your-comcast-email-to-iphone/6407fa4c41879c3c4d1bb276.

- Have you checked your background programs on the iPhone?

Thanks for reaching out and I am sorry to hear you are still having issues with the email. She may need to update the password on her iPhone as well. We also recommend checking outTurn your access to third-party email programs on or off in Xfinity Email

Email started working again until a couple weeks ago, then it stopped working (only) WHILE AT HOME for our iOS devices AND via Outlook on computers.  The WEB portal worked fine.   I have since replaced my NetGear router, and things are working again.  All other emails (in our case GMAIL, YAHOO, Company Specific, and CHARTER.net) worked fine!?!?  Somehow my ROUTER stopped port forwarding (or being able to resolve DNS) for Comcast.net.  Very strange.  No changes to my NetGear, but swapping it out with a newer LinkSys has resolved the current issue.  DO NOT ASK ME WHY (makes no sense).

Comcast email is working on my laptop, but I stopped receiving Comcast emails on my iPhone 15 last week. I deleted the email account on my iPhone and when I try to add it back I receive the message "Comcast is currently unavailable". I do not have VPN connected, phone is up-to-date and I have tried all other suggestions I have found. Nothing is working. I have spend so much time looping through the Xifinity support system to no avail. Is there anything else I can try?

Add one more victim. My last email came to my devices around 9:30 today. Since then, I've been getting the same message as everyone else. Feeling sad and discouraged. I don't have time for this. And already pay too much for the xfinity services I have.

Hey @jkmorrison62,

Thank you for visiting our official Xfinity Forums Community support page. We would be more than happy to assist with any email issues you may be experiencing. Are you using a third-party email client to access your emails or using the native Xfinity Email web portal online?

Some things that may help would be removing your Xfinity information from the third-party email client, then re-adding the information. A password reset may be required if you have not reset your password since before December 2023.

Another option to check is online via the Xfinity Email portal. There should be an advance option that states "Allow access to my Xfinity Email through third-party programs." You can find information to verify this setting is turned on by visiting our 'Turn your access to third-party email programs on or off in Xfinity Email' support page.

I am having the same problem on my iphone, ipad, and mac desktop with apple email, gmail, and spark.  I tried different email apps to no avail.  Password is correct, 3rd party apps are checked on xfinity.  I can only get email from xfinity website.  All operating systems are up to date. My husband, who has a seriously out of date operating system on his macbook pro, is getting his comcast email just fine.

Hi, @user_dsjpe5.

Thank you for letting us know. Some instructions were posted above regarding allowing third-party access. Have you given this a try? There was also an update that required you to reset your password. I did see some customers that skipped this step and ran into similar issues.

I have the same issues. Seems to be related to connecting through WiFi.

when I am connected to WiFi, iPhone and iPad mail app can’t connect to my Xifinity account.

Turning Wi-Fi off and connecting using AT&T cellular, mail app works fine. using iPhone hotspot with iPad mail app also is able to access Xifinity mail account.

i don’t use any VPN or DNS service.

I also see the same issue when using my work WiFi. but cellular seems to work OK.

Thank you for posting this observation.

As you suggested, I turned off WiFi on my iPhone and launched the mail app. Immediately my inbox on the phone began filling up with the messages that I had been unable to retrieve. Then using my phone as a hotspot for my iPad, I was able to immediately get all my emails for both Comcast email accounts that I have on the tablet.

Next I will try it on my Mac mini. I was very quick to think that this was a problem with Comcast (Sorry!). I have fiber broadband through Fidium. May be the issue lies there?

User_310drp,

The same fix worked for me thank you for sharing.   I think comcast is doing something behind the scenes to block users not on there internet service. One question I have you.  Are you current on Xfinity's internet service?   I am traveling and using wifi at at relative's home and they a Spectrum customer and there wifi is them.   I wonder is comcast/xfinity is blocking internet traffic from competing cable/TV/Internet providers.    I am also having the similar issue using Microsoft Outlook while connect to a Spectrum internet connection.

I would be interesting to know!!
