Due to SPAM, can I Temporarily Turn Off My Email (INBOX) Account ?

My preferred email address was added to some type of global distribution list.  Because of this, I get about 100 or more emails a day from all over the globe, including foreign language emails.   I really prefer not to delete the account entirely.  Can I:

  • do something so that email messages will get BOUNCED back or DELETED when they arrive?
  • create a RULE or FILTER so that the few emails I would like to receive will still be allowed thru?

In this account, my INBOX has approximately 7,000 NEW emails.

When a scammer manages to hack into an online account, they sometimes "mailbomb" the account's recovery email addresses in the hope that the victim will be overwhelmed by the flood and won't see any "you changed your info" warning emails from the company managing the hacked account.

Proceed with caution!

Call Comcast security and ask them to look at your account.  You should also run a scan of your system with your a/v software to see if it finds anything.

Comcast Customer Security Assurance------------------- Normal business hours (6:00 am to 2:00 am EST, 7 days a week) 1 - 888-565-4329

That said, you indicated that you only want to use the account with a few senders.  In that case, you could also consider using a feature in the Comcast email called the "Safe list".  To access it, on the Inbox page click on the gear icon in the upper right corner, then on "Email settings>>>>>>>Mail>>>>Advanced settings".  On the landing page you will see the option to enable the Safe list.  You would check that box and follow the prompts.  There is a field for entering email addresses (I think separated by a comma).  Understand that when that list is enabled, you will receive emails only from the addresses you put on the list----------nothing else should get through to the Inbox folder.  At any rate it's something you might want to try.
