Delete an email address for a deceased person

My wife died and I deleted her name from the account. I expected that this would cause emails sent to her address to bounce. That is n9t happening. How can I get rid of her comcast.net email address?

Because the account was active, Xfinity’s standard email activity policy requires 9-to-24 months of total inactivity before a mailbox is flagged as inactive.

So, apparently there's no way to do this. Xfinity will just keep accumulating emails at an address nobody looks at. Not my problem.
