Cannot send or receive Comcast email from Mexico using Outlook for Windows or Android

I am unable to send or receive emails from Mexico using Outlook for Windows, on two Windows devices. I keep getting prompted to enter my Xfinity password during “send-receive”, but the password is not accepted.

  • Other email providers work fine on the same Outlook installations. There’s another IMAP, an Exchange accounts, and two POP3s… none have a problem on either device.
  • With Android on Wi-Fi, I keep getting prompted to “sign into comcast.net”, but it doesn’t work when I do. With Android on mobile data, using my Mexican cell provider, it doesn’t work.
  • But with Android connected to T-Mobile (roaming), I can retrieve emails without a problem.
  • When accessing Xfinity email via the website interface, there’s no problem.
  • When using our phones and laptops just over the border in San Diego, there’s no problem.
  • When using a VPN, Outlook for Windows works…but Outlook for Android does not work on wi-fi, even with a VPN.
  • The IP address assigned by my ISP is not blacklisted, as far as I can tell.

Since my PW is correct, and no other email accounts are affected and everything works fine in the US, it leads me to believe that Comcast is blocking Mexico IP addresses.

Is this true?

Can I get myself un-blocked?

My email address was compromised during the Comcast hack a while back… could that have something to do with it?

It doesn't involve being in Mexico or your cell carrier.   Many people in the United States can't get Comcast email on their phones (iPhones included) since the update password notice went out in December.  Comcast.net email is broken for me in all ways except directly through the webmail portal.  It is essentially useless and I would migrate to a different service if I were you.

I can report that I just experienced this problem. I wasted 45 minutes of long distance calling on my vacation with no solution from Xfinity tier one support and no follow up as yet on my ticket. They assisted me in resetting my account password which accomplished nothing since the issue was with their IMAP server blocking traffic from foreign IPs. Ten days without email. Outlook email client continually prompted to login. Gmail client app indicated "IP address temporarily blocked for security." I believe this is a security measure in place to sandbox foreign IP's attempting to use Xfinity email servers. They really need to set up a second heuristic server-side rule to only block accounts with unusual traffic volume AND a foreign IP. If a real person had looked at the usage pattern they would easily realize it's not a hacked account. As a side note, I have NEVER been able to complete two step authentication using text SMS with my AT&T phone number. Attempts with customer service to resolve this issue have not been successful. The messages never arrive and there is no record of them being received and blocked in ActiveArmor (ATT's free antiSPAM app). Xfinity's online support will not provide live assistance without logging in with two-step authentication. You will only receive canned links to generic self help documents.
