Cannot access new Yahoo Comcast email oneither Mail or Outlook

Since migrating Xfinity Comcast account to Yahoo on October 13 I am unable to access my Comcast email IMAP accounts on either Mail or Outlook. I have enabled third party app permissions and app specific passwords. Yahoo and Apple support have concluded that Xfinity has not changed server settings. They still identify as Xfinity. Have also tried using Yahoo password, without success. 

 According to Yahoo: "Once you've accepted the Yahoo terms and have successfully signed in to your Comcast.net email at login.yahoo.com at least once, you'll then need to re-add your email account in the third-party email client using Yahoo Mail information. " I have done this to the best of my ability but Xfinity remains listed as the server. I need to know what the Yahoo Mail information is.

Hello @user_224139, thank you for taking the time to leave a post. Sorry to hear that you are having issues with your email.  You mentioned that you were unsuccessful in using the Yahoo password.  Have you attempted to reset it to regain access to your email? I have attached an article with more information once your email has migrated to Yahoo. Upgrade your Comcast.net email experience. There is also a link attached to this article for once your email has migrated to Yahoo, which I have attached for you: welcome.yahoo.com.

@XfinityMarshante​ Yes, on the advise of both the paid Yahoo support person and also the Apple tech , I did change my password, after multiple failed attempts with original password. Yahoo subscription support was pretty clueless, but Apple walked me through multiple attempts to gain access. Both felt the account was not configured to migrate to 3rd party as IMAP. I am not a technical person, but feel I have tried and failed every effort so far.

@user_224139 Have you tried accessing your email directly through the Yahoo website? Unfortunately, we don’t have access to Yahoo’s specific configurations. Once your email has migrated to Yahoo, they’ll be the best resource for support moving forward.

I can access my email on Yahoo site and app, but not onmy customary 3rd party locations: Apple Mail and Outlook. After more than an hour with the Yahoo paid support(only way to get live human support, the supervisor said the problem was with Xfiinity. The Yahoo settings still identify the server as Comcast. The Apple tech also concluded the proper settings were not available. I will try all the options again, using my Yahoo password(rejected every time) and the third party app specific password. What I really want to know is how did anyone who succeeded gain access to the third party apps.

Have you tried the settings for third party apps?

I will tell you that these settings work for Thunderbird.

Do these help? :

  • ... you'll need to complete your Comcast.net email move to Yahoo Mail first.   • Yahoo IMAP server settings 
  • Yahoo POP access settings

Here is the fix
On Yahoo's website, once you are logged in to your account, instead of using the password Yahoo created for the new account, do this.
Password
1. If in mail, go to your account settings, click on your icon in the upper right-hand corner, select manage your account
2. Under the main search bar at the top, click Security
3 Scroll down to the box that says external connections
4. Select the app passwords tab
5. There will be a "Create app password" button. Click it. If you do have other app passwords to the right of the box there is an icon and link that says "Create App Password." Click it.
6. This pops up a dialogue box: Enter your app's name. Put in something like Mac Mail.
7. Click Generate Password.
8. Another dialogue box will pop up with your password and an option to copy it. Click copy
9. Go to Mac Mail
10. On the Apple bar, select Mail, then add account.
11. Type in your email address.
12. In the list, select Other Mail. Do not select Yahoo from the list.
13. In the dialogue box, it should already populate the email field and have a password field
14. Paste in the app password that was generated in steps 7 and 8. IMPORTANT: Do not use your actual email password
15. It will time out because it is trying to use the old Comcast email servers this is fine. The Incoming and Outgoing mail server fields are now editable.
16. Put in the following. 
17. Click Sign In, and it will connect.
Additional Info: If needed, here are the correct server settings from Yahoo, but everything should work at this point.

Incoming Mail (IMAP) Server

Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server

  • Server - smtp.mail.yahoo.com
  • Port - 465 or 587
  • Requires SSL - Yes
  • Requires authentication - Yes

Once again, Comcast has done the impossible by making a bad email experience worse.  I followed the link to begin the migration to yahoo.com which first asks for my login credentials.  The password field is filled, then the screen refreshes without any explanation.  I try again, double-checking the spelling.  Same result. Stuck in an endless loop with no explanation.  So, with no way to access my email remotely,  contacts are lost.  This relationship must end.
