April 18th comcast broke my email service
Morning of april 17 th everything was fine. Morning of april 18th my email application said it could not send emails.
send/receive error: "your server does not support the connection encryption type you have specified"
I have windows 7 because my solidworks application can't run on windows 10/11 ..... so the latest version of outlook I could use is 2016, bought it, downloaded it, and still my email is broken. When I called comcast there was a message before getting to the prompts that said on april 17, 2023 comcast is going to not support old security email applications, and they also said at this time they would not do anything about it. Web bases email works fine, so I guess if I can't resolve this that is what I will have to resort to.
computer: dell m6800
OS: windows 7 64 bit professional
email: outlook 2016 professional

It's not outlook 2016, it's the default TLS version windows 7 shipped with. TLS 1.2 didn't exist back then.
Before you try this, backup your system registry: http://support.microsoft.com/help/322756
It's also not a bad idea to back up your entire system and create a system restore disk (windows 7 ntbackup). https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/description-of-the-windows-nt-backup-restore-utility-for-windows-7-and-for-windows-server-2008-r2-47c276ff-5788-123b-ff5b-418b5e9a13a8
Try the instructions here to install the service pack that includes TLS 1.2.
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/update-to-enable-tls-1-1-and-tls-1-2-as-default-secure-protocols-in-winhttp-in-windows-c4bd73d2-31d7-761e-0178-11268bb10392
If Windows Update didn't add it already, try to install the service pack listed above. It will say already applied if it is already installed. It's recommended that you don't try to add registry keys yourself.
Download the "Easy Fix" utility instead from Microsoft (only Microsoft) from the link above. See if it can change your default TLS version.
After you do that, Check the registry key in the link above. See if it is set:
DefaultSecureProtocols Value
Protocol enabled
0x00000008
Enable SSL 2.0 by default
*CAUTION: using a security update orphaned OS just to check your email or web surf is a bad idea.

Welp. You're out of support on Windows 7, but the service pack is still in the catalog. For now:
https://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Search.aspx?q=KB976932
Info and Easy fix here:
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/update-to-enable-tls-1-1-and-tls-1-2-as-default-secure-protocols-in-winhttp-in-windows-c4bd73d2-31d7-761e-0178-11268bb10392#bkmk_easy
Alternatively, you can just install a 3rd party email client like Tunderbird (free), or use webmail.

Folks, newer versions of Outlook (and Windows) will work, provided they support TLSv1.2. Windows 7 has questionable support for TLSv1.2. They say there's a patch, but I haven't personally tested this for efficacy. We're not trying to abandon users, we're trying to ensure that we're offering encryption that is secure. TLSv1 and TLSv1.1 are no longer deemed secure (xfinity.com/tls). I understand this can be frustrating. TLSv1.2 was released in 2008. Most systems properly supported TLSv1.2 by 2014 or so. If you're using a system older than that (which means they're unsupported by the vendor), there are likely a fair number of other security issues that those systems could be exposed to.
