A Possible Hack

On 16 May 2026 I received a Comcast email.  I was just about to apply what it says about my email account.  However, yesterday I began to question its validity.  This sender used a non-monitored address.  It mentions updated terms and services.  The current version of the email service you are using, according to this email, expires 20 May 2026, two days from now.  I hate to post here; but I am doing it because I do not feel like telephoning right now or anytime today.  The sender used a peculiar email address, particularly because he used a competing service, [Edited: "Personal Information"].  This Ken [Edited: "Personal Information"] did not even sign the message.  Upon request, I will forward the message to whomever the moderators here designate.  One thing I don't need is a major hack.

Such emails are scams. "Update" emails that have any sort of "do this or lose your access" demand are almost always scams, especially when they only give you a short time to comply.

Do not click!

If possible, check email that claims to be from Comcast/Xfinity with their Connect webmail (https://connect.xfinity.com/) and look for the XFINITY Verified Email logo. See https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/comcast-verified-email for examples of valid logo placement. A logo in the body of the email does not count.

Unfortunately, AFAIK the logo is not present when you view one of their messages in an email app or program. It's only visible when you use their web email site, and only for email sent to a Comcast.net address.

To report a scam email follow the instructions under the "How do I report phishing email sent to or from a Comcast.net email account?" heading on https://spa.xfinity.com/help/email-abuse?faq=spam-email.

If you are wondering about "conversion to Yahoo" messages, legitimate ones look like the example in https://forums.xfinity.com/conversations/email/68e5cc7e19d01b57e46b0864?commentId=68e64c7119d01b57e46df868 and appear when you log in to https://connect.xfinity.com/. Also see https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/yahoo-email-migration-overview and https://help.yahoo.com/kb/new-yahoo-mail/SLN36803.html.

BruceW.  Thanks.  That settles that!  I forwarded the message to the appropriate email address after sending it to my Junk folder.  The logo I should have looked for, by logging into the site rather than using my default email client, in this case Thunderbird, was the "X" for Xfinity.  I will now know what to do when I spot these from now on.
