why does the IMAP account password pop up each time after I have already updated my email

Last night when I opened my email a box popped up for me to log in to IMap account. I don't even know what that means.

I called comcast today and a technician helped me but my email is not right and the box is still popping up. WHAT IS THIS

I too get this issue frequently but not for several months, then again it started and is extremely annoying. The only reason I haven't left Comcast Xfinity all together is I have used the address for other services for a long time but if this doesn't stop it will be worth back tracking and disconnecting all my accounts from this service.

I am having the same issue bringing email from comcast to Outlook on laptop.  I have done all of the troubleshooting recommended.  stops for a while then comes back.  No issues logging in directly to Comcast.  No password or configuration changes.  The issue is with server Imap.comcast.net

I had the same issue. A pop up box asking to enter the password for the IMAP account. For almost a week I could not retrieve my emails from my iPhone. I was able to see my emails from my desktop. I finally figured out how to retrieve my emails from my iPhone. I downloaded the Xfinity app on my iPhone. Click on Internet and mobile, tap on your account at the top. Finally, I can retrieve my emails from my iPhone. I hope this helps everyone out there having the same issue.

Thanks for posting this solution. Will Comcast expect us to access our emails like this forever?  Does anyone at Comcast read this forum?

Hey there, @19regor39, thanks for reaching out through Xfinity Forums regarding your email services. There was a known issue effecting our email services. Have you checked if you are still having this issue?

I spent a lot of my time trying to stop the pop up and be able to use my email, and then I found multiple complaints aimed at Comcast. We now know the problem isn’t for us to correct, it’s Comcast’s or Xfinity’s, whatever they call themselves. How can we get them to fix what they [Edited: "Language"] up? I want a refund for the days and weeks this program hasn’t been working as it did weeks ago.

This has been going on for me off and on for months on iPhone 16. It's random, sometimes it works fine and other times it keeps asking for a password on all 5 of the comcast.net email addresses I have. The only way I get it to work is turn off my VPN, close the mail program and open it again - then all my email comes in. Then I turn my VPN back on and it continues to work for a while until the next time it happens. Not sure if that will work for anyone else but works for me. I am using the AT&T ActiveArmor Mobile Security VPN.

s8m6fk:  I don't have a VPN unless Comcast provides one with their "service" that I'm unaware of.

This morning I was at a McDonald's using my iPad and Apple Mail. I was signed into the free WiFi and the email was working great. Until about an hour later when the box of death appeared. Using the iPad's email had ended for that session. So, what is causing erratic behavior like this?  Could it be my iPad failing, something amiss with the free WiFi, or something deeper, like the Comcast email program?  When I got back home the email worked fine again.  That was today.  Email doesn't always work at home, the pop-up shows up at home too. Others on this forum have changed passwords, deleted their account and started anew, all to no avail.  Comcast has been deaf to the complaints.

Thanks for that information, 19regor39. Sorry to hear you are still having issues with your email. Are you able to still access your email through our website when out of the house, or issues with Apple Mail and our website?

I have found when I move from unsecured WiFi with VPN to another area, Xfinit gives the IMAP kiss of death.
Xfinity will apologize and do nothing (frequently mentioned in the past few years - first time I had the problem was in 2023 in another country). As long as you can access via website’not my problem’

solution. Go to secure WiFi. Power off phone. Power on (first mail and then VON connect) and you should be good to go.

i used to have a problem just changing countries- happening repeatedly in CA ( maybe we should be our own)

I’ve been having the same issue off and on for months now. Usually disconnecting from wifi fixes it for a couple hours but now I just keep getting this error “

Cannot Get Mail

The mail server "imap.comcast.net" is not responding. Verify that you have entered the correct account info in Mail settings.

Server code "ALERT", server message

"Temporarily blacklisted IP Address - try again later".

I haven’t changed the password in years so it’s not that. I’ve deleted and reinstalled. Didn’t work. All my settings match what is recommended. I can’t get emails at all on my phone now.

Don't feel like the Lone Ranger. There are many of us in the same predicament.  Is this connected with Comcast's long time inability to provide a workable email system with Apple Mail?  There are some emails floating around about Xfinity forcing every customer using Apple Mail to switch to YAHOO email. Why can't they solve the problem on their end instead of inconveniencing so many paying users?

So I did nothing to my computer. No password change no settings changes.  Outlook tells me it cannot sync and is asking for the imap password continuously and not reading my emails.  I verified all of the settings were correct and even changed my password to see it it worked.  Nothing is working.

Good afternoon @user_juc1g4 and happy New Year! I'm sorry to hear that your Outlook is not syncing and asking for your imap password. Is your email working on your web browser? Have you tried accessing Outlook on an alternate device as well?

Same problem. Same unhelpful answers. If we say our email worked 2 minutes ago then we suddenly get the pop up then there have been no changes. We have not reconfigured everything in our phones. We have not gone anywhere and changed or updated any passwords or software. Please address the issue or at least give us a real fix instead of telling us to trouble shoot like we're both morons but also tech gurus who have changed SMPT maps in our phones!

Same issue here. I can log in successfully via the web with the same password, but the iPhone Mail app continues to show an “IMAP password incorrect” error, preventing email delivery on my phone. There has been no iOS update, and the password has been verified in a browser.  This happened about a month ago and magically disappeared, however it is back again!

Oh and I need to provide the same password I have for the email to post this message.  Password has not changed!

This appears to be a backend issue. Please investigate and advise on a resolution. Thank you.

@user_nq2rg8 This has to be a Comcast/Xfinity problem in their attempt to solve their incompetence to program an email application that works. They are supposedly planning on dumping their email clients onto Yahoo.

Do you have VPN? If so, turn off your device. Power it back on. Try again.

roaming vpn and imap don’t appear to be working nicely.
I start mail and then VPN and it’s good for a while.
Xfinity is useless

Xfinity has suggested making sure the Port numbers are correct.

IMAP PORT: 993

SMPT PORT: 587 with SSL/TLS Required

I'm curious if this is a permanent fix or not.

And what if the PORT numbers are already at the recommended?

Why suddenly after years of sending and receiving emails there is a mysterious problem?

We didn't do anything different, could it be something wrong in the IPS end.

I am having the same issue. On my iphone but not on my Macbook Pro. Not sure about my iPad yet. I painfully have updated my password with Xfinity. Then on all my devices. Had to delete email and add back in as advised. Spent over an hour on the phone with Xfinity. Very painful. Finally email seemed to be back up and running. Now the issue on my iPhone again! You need to be very definitive with all the steps and screenshots on how to correct this issue! I pay so much for Xfinity, and am apparently a Diamond member, whatever that means. I don’t appreciate spending hours on all devices and the phone with support that drags it out and seems clueless.

Same issue.  I am using Outlook for Windows, IMAP.  It was working until a few days ago - the last time it connected was Sunday, Feb 15, 2026 at 10:04PM EST.  I haven't changed ANYTHING.  Everything is updated.  What changed on Xfinity's end and when will it be fixed?  I have tried all of the steps the techs have repeatedly laid out in this thread.
