Camera motion detection recording

Was anyone else told that the cameras would detect motion and record 16 second clips as part of the basic service? That's what I was promised by the Xfinity store salesman and by the installer but it's not working. Xfinity support says they only offer 24/7 recording for an additional $10/month fee. I don't need 24/7 recording. I just want what I was promised.

I apologize for the misinformation.  At this time, the xCam2 (our latest camera model) does not support Rules, which would be required to configure motion and video clips.  This camera does support 24/7 Video Recording service, which is an additional $9.95 per month and covers up to 4 cameras.

The xCam2 does support Motion notifications.  This will send a snapshot picture of motion to your mobile device via a push notification.  More informatoin on that is here.

Camera models that do support Video Clips and Pictures on motion events include the iCam2 and the original xCam.

I hope to have more information on new rules and alert capabilities in the near future!

Ok thank you that is helpful. Being able to see what's setting off the motion sensor is what I need. Video would be great but a picture works too. Although I've been getting false alarms even though it's set to only detect people. Do you know how far away the cameras detect motion?

I have not seen a published distance for detecting motion, but I can tell you about my own personal experience.

I have a driveway that can accomodate a couple of cars between my house and the sidewalk, and my xCam2 detects people walking on the sidewalk... but it will not generally pick up on people walking on the other side of the street (even though I can see them when watching the live camera views).

The "people" detection for notifications uses AI and is not perfect... but you should see it be right far more often than not.  You might want to experiment with turning on All Motion Notifications just to see what is being detected in general, versus for just People.

Ok thanks. I think it was picking up cars and/or trucks driving by on the street about 75 feet away. I aimed the camera downward so it did not pick up as much of the street and now it seems to be working better. It's still intermittent though as sometimes when I walk by it does not detect me.

@DavidY123 our camera is doing the same. Anytime a larger vehicle goes past it detects a “person”.  There’s definitely no people there. Our house sits about 70 feet from the road. Have you been able to find a solution?

Hello! @user_c0b557 Thank you so much for taking the time to reach out to us here through our Forums as well! I wanted to offer a few steps to help you with the motion activated notifications you are getting on your cameras. I like to know if I need to look at mine right away and I can see how being told it’s a person may be alarming at times. First, have you checked your settings to be sure that “all events” are turned off and its only trying to notify you of people? Below are the steps. Can you let me know if this helps, please?

Grant permission for the Xfinity app to send notifications in your phone’s settings, if necessary.

Sign in to the Xfinity app.

Verify that push notifications are enabled.

Select the Home tab.

Scroll down to the desired camera and select the camera thumbnail.

On the camera screen, select the gear icon on the upper-right.

Select Notifications.

Select the On/Off switch to turn on notifications.

Select which events you’d like to trigger a notification: People Only or All Events

I no longer work for Comcast.

Hello. My camera is set to only show people. Last night, I got over 20 notifications of my camera detecting a “person”, but it was only cars.

Hello user_c0b557. Depending upon your situation, and the distance of the cars to the camera, it's possible the camera face detection recognized drivers' faces in the cars and registered them as people.

Hello. My camera is about 70 feet from the road, and I get about 100 notifications a day that a “person” was detected, and it’s usually a dark colored vehicle in the video. This includes notifications from nighttime )when it’s dark!).  I highly doubt that the camera is really picking up faces at ~45 mph in the dark, from 70 feet away, but ok.

I’ve done my due diligence in reporting the issue. I hope a better solution/explanation is found!
