Xfinity Website

Why is Xfinity's website going away in June, 2022?  I do not use a cell phone for anything; all smart phones seem to emit radiation to my body, therefore I do not use them.  I am an Xfinity customer and have numerous accounts with Xfinity and I always conduct all of my business on the website.  If the website no longer exist, I will have no other choice but to take my business elsewhere.

Very frustrated!!!

Who said the website is going away?  Was this in regard to email?  Did you get an email saying it was going away unless you "confirmed" or "updated" something?

@Again : It's probably a reference to https://internet.xfinity.com/ which has this notice:

The xFi website will be going away on 06/07/22. You can still enjoy the same great features by downloading the free Xfinity app to manage your WiFi and devices. Get it now on the App Store or Google Play.

@Again I got this email today:

The xFi website is going away

As of June 7, 2022, the Xfinity xFi website found at internet.xfinity.com will no longer be available. But don’t worry – your service is not changing. All the features of Xfinity xFi are available right from the palm of your hand with the Xfinity app.

The Xfinity app is the easiest way to manage your Xfinity experience. Not only does it provide the ultimate control of your home WiFi network with the ability to assign user profiles, view and control connected devices, test your speeds, and enable Advanced Security, it also allows you to manage your Xfinity account and get help whenever you need it – 24/7.

Once the website is retired on June 7, 2022, you will be unable to adjust any of your WiFi settings, pause WiFi, or use other existing parent control settings unless you download the free Xfinity app. If you haven’t already done so, be sure to download it today!

Also this email, which does not bear the "Xfinity Verified" seal, perhaps because it was sent to a non-Comcast "Personal email" (account recovery) address:

We hope it gives you peace of mind to know that you can control your Xfinity xFi from anywhere. We'll keep you updated as we continue to streamline our app experience and simplify the ways you manage your services with us.

I too am very disappointed the XFi website is going away, although for different reasons. I do all of my interneting on my desktop, and my phone doesn't have enough memory left in it to even download the app. Can't afford to just go out and buy a new phone. This is VERY disappointing..

It's not just for cell phones, I have verified with live chat, it's for all of us, including desktop pc and laptop users. It's safe to go ahead and download the app link  in the email notice now prior to the June retirement of the website. No need for another phone at all. The email simply isn't clear enough and makes it seem like it's only for cell phones, but that's not the case here.

Apps from Apple and Google ONLY run on iOS and Android devices - you cannot use them on a Windows computer, which most people have. Go and read the reviews for the app - people HATE it - it doesn't even work half the time:

I agree with you, I don't use my phone as a computer, I have a desktop pc instead. I got that email this morning, now trying to get in touch with Xfinity about it. It would appear that this applies only to cell phone users, the ones that do use their phones for all internet activity/business. Then again, apps can be downloaded onto pcs as well, Xfinity wasn't too clear about it.
If you click on the "Get the App" button in the email, it does show only cell phones, not pcs, so this is likely meant only for cell phones. Xfinity needs to clarify this for pcs users...that the new app is intended ONLY for cell phones, and the pc website doesn't need to be replaced by an app. That's my take on it, I think/hope I'm right about this app issue.

@user_6f2b7e  well if you have a Windows 10 OS for your desktop like I do, you can only get apps from the Microsoft app store, and I searched there for the XFi app to no avail. The app is only available for Android or Apple phones as far as I know.. So in my case I'm just SOL..

I confirmed with Xfinity that it's for everyone, not just for cell phones, so the download can be down now, no need to wait until June. If the link I posted above doesn't work, get on a chat with them and let them walk you through the download since it's not easy for you to get to it. Be patient, and keep trying if you get someone who is clueless and can't help you. Good luck!

I tried on my computer, and it will not download the xFi/xfinity app. If you have Windows on your computer, you can only download from Microsoft. They do not have the Xfinity app.  If you see Xfinity talking about the xFi app they only refer to mobile phones, iPhones and Androids, do not mention PC's or Desktops.

I agree with you, I don't use my cell phone as a computer at all...that's why I have a desktop pc!  So the email was very confusing to me at first.
However, I just got with a live chat agent and was informed the app is also for desktop pc use, not limited to cell phones. Apparently, the entire website is being retired, and downloading the app (link included in email notice), to a desktop pc or laptop will be required to interact with Xfinity for all Xfinity services. I was assured it's okay to go ahead and download the app now, no need to wait until June to change it on my desktop pc. So go download it and get used to the new way to interact with Xfinity, it's not too early to do so.

I hope this helps you, I get the frustration because most companies don't understand that not everyone uses a cell phone for a computer these days. It's safe to download this app now before June.

That's incorrect. The Xfinity app is only for IOS and Android phones and tablets. It won't work on desktops or laptops.

See https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/using-xfinity-app which says:

Device Requirements
Supported mobile operating systems:
    iOS 14 or later.
    Android 7.1 or later.
Note: Windows and Amazon phones are not supported.

@BruceW Exactly. Just for fun I tried to install the app on my Win10 PC in MS Edge - it gave me the option to install on one device, a Samsung SM-G973N smart phone, which ISN'T MY PHONE! Somebody hacked into my WiFi router! I have the Wifi hotspot disabled - did Comcast sneakily re-enable it for everyone again? A year ago every time I had to reboot the modem it changed my choice and re-enabled the hotspot. Also, I have a 2015 Chromebook - the Google Play store says that app will not work on my Chromebook - what the heck? Edit: Chromebook runs Android 4.4, that's why the app won't work - how nice of Xfinity to not make the app backwards compatible with older devices - Android 7.1 wasn't released until December 5, 2016, many devices were still available for sale with older versions for years after, so you might have a 4 yr old Android device that the app won't run on - that's bad engineering. I would bet there are plenty of phones and tablets out there owned by Xfinity customers that won't be able to use the app, and therefore will not be able to control their WiFi service.

Edit: Forget the question about whether my WiFi hotspot was turned back on - it wasn't, and I wasn't hacked - that Samsung phone is what the NOX Android emulator I have installed on my PC uses as the device it's emulating, that's why it showed up on the device list - NOX must use WiFi to access the net, it can't use your hard wired ethernet connection because it's emulating a wireless phone.

I don't know what genius thought taking away the website from us was a good idea, but in any case, there's no need to panic.

You can run phone apps on a PC with an emulator.  I use BlueStacks for Android apps on my PC.  I just installed the Xfinity My Account and Xfinity apps from the Google Play store on my Windows 10 Pro desktop and they both work.

They also have a MacOS version.

here's the BlueStacks app

Don't bother with Bluestacks. It's not very good and is a total resource hog/convoluted mess. I would suggest MEMU instead.

I've been reading MEMU is a mess.  Everyone has their favorite.  Try them all.  The point is the world isn't ending even for people who either don't have or don't want to use a smartphone.

@Xindefinite

You say try them all...most aren't technical enough to try just one...the world isn't ending...well it is for some.

But if one doesn't have a smart phone, what are the chances they would understand how to configure or use MEMU/BlueStack?  And what if they don't want to get a google account just to download and use the BlueStack app?  What about older folks that use flip phones?  Good luck being able to even see what's on the screen, let alone using those small 3 character-per-key phones.

I have three Xfinity accounts at three different locations.  One location, in the mountains, has the Xfinity gateway.  At this mountain location, cell phone signal is non-existent.  What do I do there?

What about my 99 year-old mother-in-law who doesn't have any cell phone?

That email was the worst explanation of what will work and will not work anymore.  Do you have to have the app to add a new email account, or make any configuration changes to your web email?

@Xindefinite You'll have to download and install the latest version of Bluestacks to use the Xfinity app - the version I have is based on Android 5 and the app won't work on it - and Bluestacks takes forever to load and is not easy to use even for a computer literate person. I have the NOX emulator too (V7.0.1.3 from 2021) and that's not exactly easy to use either. I just tried to install the app on NOX and it won't install. Your average person will have absolutely no clue what an emulator is or how to use one. Ok, just installed the newest version of NOX, it loads much faster now and I was able to install the app - I also installed the latest Bluestacks emulator and have been waiting minutes for it to load - it's going to get uninstalled it's such a slow pig. NOX isn't much faster to load. Note: If you want to mess with Bluestacks don't install the "X" version - that is just for playing online games, you cannot install apps in it.

@anon86290 Don't mess with Bluestacks - it's a boggy mess and hard to use even for someone who has been programming and using computers since the Commodore Amiga. You and your grandmother need Google accounts (free and easy to create), and I suggest you download and install the NOX Android emulator on your PC's, then sign into Google Play and install the Xfinity app - it's actually pretty easy, just be patient while NOX installs and starts up - it will take over 5 minutes to install, and almost 2 minutes to load after you start it. AFAIK this will have no effect on the Xfinity email/voicemail site - if you think about it, Xfinity really can't get rid of that - you can access everything about your account(s) from https://connect.xfinity.com/

You can get NOX here:

https://www.bignox.com/

P.S. I have a new dumb flip phone from AT&T (they phased out 3G service, had to get a new one), and it can access the internet via WiFi - but it's so slow I wouldn't dream of trying to use the phone to install the Xfinity app - just moving the cursor takes a second or two, and of course you have the tiny screen problem too.

Hi,

So you are saying that the email that went out, with subject, "We’re changing how you access Xfinity xFi", and said "The xFi website is going away, and "will no longer be available", was incorrect, and only certain functions/features will only be available through an app?  Can you tell us what functions/features are affected?

Thanks.

The xFi website is going away

So, just want to try to clarify. What I am getting from this comment and the other comments, is that the site to modify and test our WiFi is going away. However, all the OTHER sites for our Xfinity account stuff (i.e. Xfinity email account, Xfinity bills, and Xfinity homepage) will still be active and be accessible via any internet browser and any device (Windows, Apple, Android, etc.)?

I'm trying to word my problem as simple as I can. I just need to know of a way to download the XFi app onto my desk computer, NOT on any phone. My WIN10 OS only allows apps from the Microsoft app store and I can't seem to find the XFi app there. It only says it's for Android or Apple.

@user_37e1f3 The Xfinity App is only available on the App store for iOS devices, and the Google Play store on your Android or certain Chrome devices. I see you have a Windows device, and you may only have access to the Windows Store which does not support the app at this time. That does mean you would not be able to download the app from your laptop at this time. I have a Windows Surface Pro, so I am in the same situation as you. We are always working to expand so this could change. I know that is not the news you wanted to hear, but I hope that answers your question.

... need to know of a way to download the XFi app onto my desk computer ...

As posted up-thread, the Xfinity app is intended only for IOS and Android phones and tablets. It may be possible to install software that emulates an Android device on a PC and then install the app on that emulated device, but that may not be easy and may not be reliable.

Comcast really should create an app that runs on Windows desktops, but that would cost them a few pennies so it's not likely to happen.

If this is how a change is rolling out in 2022, maybe they should not retain our business. Offering practical tools to customers online is a basic service. App or no app.

Up-thread, XfinityArielle says:

"Upon further research, there should be no changes in features. We apologize for the confusion. You should dtill have access to all the same features as before."

If this is true, then the original email was wrong, and XfinityRoberto, who says the site is not going away and that only certain features will be unavailable on the site, is also wrong.   Since there's been so many opposing answers, we may only know after June 7, 2022.

This is just inexcusable., regardless of outcome, that it seems that no one is sure what is going on, and that many of us have been trying to figure out workarounds, that may not be needed.

By the way, why does the Xfinity forum always underline the word "Xfinity" in red, indicating that it's misspelled?  Huh?  It's the Xfinity spellchecker!

Would be nice if the techies at Xfinity bothered to clarify in such a way that average people will understand.  The regular Xfinity website one uses to access most account info, billing, payments, TV programming etc. is not leaving.  You are only affected if you use(rent) the Xfinity Gateway (i.e. their combo cable modem/wifi router, aka Xfi or Gateway).  People who do not have Xfi did not get this email from Xfinity.

After June, to make changes to how that Xfi unit functions you will need to use the app.  I seem to remember needing to download the app to set up a new Xfi system and set the wifi password.  For many people that is the last time they would use the app....unless you are into setting additional controls like for kids or guest passwords, etc.

@user_950132 Not true.

I have three accounts at three locations.  Two use my own Netgear Nighthawk R6400 wifi routers with older Comcast rented modems, and one uses an Xfi gateway (I was lazy).  It's not true that only gateway users got this email.  I got two emails, one for my gateway account, and one for my non-gateway account.  A third account got nothing.

It's also not true that you need the app to set up a gateway account.  For my gateway account, when I set it up, it insisted that I download and use the app, but that was not really necessary.  They just want you to use the app.  I was able to set it up without the app.

Finally, we've been told on this thread, by an Xfinity employee, that the xFi site is not going away, and all of it's functions will remain.  See above.  But, we'll just have to wait and see what really happens on June 7, 2022.

Even the employees are confused.

The site is going away.  No, it isn't going away, all features will remain.  No, only some features will remain, others won't.  Thank you for letting us clear that up for you.  If there are any other questions, direct message us.

It's almost like AI bots are talking to each other in here.  Reminds me of the scene in the movie Airplane! with the voiceovers at the airport arguing over zones:  https://youtu.be/AZ2EPeq1TK0

As for changing gateway settings, you don't need the browser OR the app, since this can be done directly in the GUI menu via browser.  Indeed, you have much more control over the gateway in the gateway's own menu than you do on the website or app.  Ok, so some Great Grandmas may have problems, but they somehow have apparently been managing to use the website, since I don't see people complaining about that?  If you can use a web browser, you can use an emulator.  There's very little learning curve.  Besides, I'm sure the less technically inclined can get a friend or family member to help them do what they need done, just like they did when they signed up for service and used the website to do all this the first time around.  If they never bothered changing gateway settings, they won't care that this functionality is going away.
