Hello, and thank you for your interest in using our services at your new place! Some modems are not compatible with our services/firmware, and in order to use your own equipment, it would need to be on our approved device list. You may find the approved devices listed here: https://comca.st/3gKVu6F

Select models are approved for select speed options as well. There will be an option to filter by your selected speed and then additional options listed on the left-hand side.

My modem worked fine with xfinity as of yesterday so I don't think its out of date. And they said that I couldn't use any privately owned modem, I had to rent one. What could be the cause of that?

@user_cd6854 thank you for those details and yes you are able to still use your own equipment, sometimes modems are just needing to be updated as technology is always being updated. Were you making any changes to your speeds or service?

So basically there is never a reason that I would be unable to transfer my modem (assuming its up to date) from one apartment to another or a reason that I would have to rent a modem as apposed to buying my own?

You are correct unless you are using our Gigabit Pro Xfinity Internet that does require equipment to be leased. Would you like for us to review your plan to confirm you are able to use your own modem?

I wasn't originally using that plan at my old apartment. All I want to do is have my service moved to my new apartment without having to rent equipment. But when I called to have the move set up they said that due to how the building was configured, I would have to rent a modem. That is the part I dont understand. What would be special about this building that I would have to rent one?
