wifi won't connect

I split my time between 2 residences, summer and winter.

Wifi has been working fine for the last 6 weeks. Suddenly today I cannot connect my computer to my home wifi. Message says the network password is incorrect or changed. I have not changed anything.

Stranger still, I CAN connect to my winter wifi network, even though my winter home is 1,300 miles away and my winter xfinity account is in temporary suspension.

Please help--thanks.

Hey @4cu66YF, Thank you for visiting our official Xfinity Forums Community support page. We would be more than happy to assist with the Xfinity Internet connectivity issues you are experiencing. It would pretty much be impossible to connect to a wireless network that is so far away.

Do you use the same WiFi network name and password at both of the homes? Do you currently use an Xfinity xFi Gateway or use your own personal cable modem/router? We hope to hear from you soon.

No, the network names and passwords are different for each house. We have 2 accounts.

My gateway is from xfinity.

I just checked my computer again under Settings...it shows that I am connected to the far-away network.

I just looked at my iphone...I haven't touched it, but it has changed over to the far-away network too.

Are you able to show the local wireless networks and connect to the wireless network name that would be coming from the home you are currently in @4cu66YF? If you are able to see the wireless network name and receiving an error that the password may be incorrect, you would need to verify the information from the gateway/router.

An additional step you can take is to "Forget the Network" and start a new connection to the wireless network to submit the proper password. Do you currently use an Xfinity xFi Gateway or use your own personal cable modem/router?

If I left-click on the wifi icon on the lower right of my computer screen, I can see several "available" networks. These include both my summer and winter networks (plus some apparently here in my neighborhood). I CAN connect to my far-away winter network, but NOT to the one here in my summer home.

I don't know the specifics of my gateway. It is from xfinity, NOT one that I own.

I might as well try to Forget Network, and then add it. What have I got to lose?!

BTW...my computer is acting strangely. This morning it would not start. I went away for a couple of hours and tried again. I got an error message about doing a SETUP but I clicked Continue and Restart and it came up...even restored the pages I had open last night.

My computer is a Dell laptop 2019. I already have to use a wireless keyboard, plus it has been making a low strange noise occasionally. Probably time for a new one.

I will try Forget Network and get back to you.

Thanks!

@4cu66YF I just had the same problem with my dad's laptop the other night. It wouldn't find the signal it had previously connected. His device is also an older model and "forgetting" the signal worked for him. Hopefully, it works for you as well. If not, I'll be on standby just in case.
