Want X1, sent a PR150BNM, it got bricked, sent it back, got another PR150BNM!
I moved back into Comcast territory in March 2023 and signed back up, after being with Comcast in Hatfield PA from 2015 to 2020. I wanted an X1 box like the one I had in Hatfield. When signing up, the rep asked me if I wanted "DVR". My first thought was a TiVo, so I said no. He never mentioned X1. I was sent a PR150BNM. It's got 1990s-era blocky menus, definitely NOT an X1. The box's menus initially came up empty, just as reported in this other post that Google found:
This box was a snail in downloading info, after 3 days all I had was broadcast TV channels. I knew something was wrong, I paid for standard cable, not basic. I tried the online help, but it's all written to assume I had a real X1. The instructions were nowhere close to the menus on that box. I was being texted to activate, but there was no menu on the box to do so. (1990s-era menus never considered the idea of remote activation.) The box sat 2 weeks like this before some update was sent to it, and it finally become operational. I guess I hit some kind of time limit, and software automatically opened it up for me.
Next, in August I got emails/texts warning me to replace the box or lose on-demand and other features. I looked online and others were saying this box was the old one and Comcast was in the process of retiring it, so nobody was supposed to send it to new customers. I tried the instructions twice - both times I landed on a Comcast page that kept coming up Restricted, no access. Really?? I remained locked out. But the box did continue to work for regular TV watching.
About 2 weeks ago another update was sent to this box - I discovered it hung, and it would not boot. Bricked. I finally got time to get down to the store closest to me, an hour and half ride. It's in Cumming GA, but they couldn't help me, said I was outside their territory! Comcast has no stores in a large swath of Georgia, they're all close to Atlanta. Most of the state has no stores. This store had the gall to tell me to find a closer store, as they never bothered to notice they're on the outer edge of where all the stores are (plainly visible in Google Maps). They gave me back the bricked device, only option was to call the 800 number. I was really let down. I don't like being forced to deal with speaker bots. I had a thought, I went back to that page again and this time it let me in. I submitted the order for replacement, and sent the bricked device back via UPS.
Today I got the new box, opened it up only to find I didn't get the X1 I'm afrer, I was sent another PR150BNM! The same exact box I was asked to replace. That should never happen. I understand the PR150BNM is obsolete. X1 is/was heavily promoted by Comcast, so why is it being this hard to get one? I want X1 and the voice remote that goes with it. I had this in Hatfield, I know what they look like and how they act.
Trying to do this the online (impersonal way is not working. I need a live person to lend me a hand.
