Upgrade to XB10 gateway

I am a current Xfinity customer with an internet plan- Gigabit.  I understand that the XB10 gateway is now available for customers.

I would like to request an upgrade to the XB10 gateway, as I believe it would significantly improve the performance of my home network. Please let me know if I am eligible for this equipment and what steps I need to take to have it shipped to me.

Solawbuster  Good morning, and thank you for reaching out! I'd be happy to help take a closer look at your equipment options. The XB10 gateway has recently become available for some customers, and I'd be glad to review your account to see what equipment is currently supported and whether an upgrade may be available for your setup. To better understand your situation, could you tell me a little more about your current service?
  • Are you experiencing any issues with your home network today, such as slow speeds, WiFi coverage problems, device connectivity issues, or lag?
  • Are you currently using an XB8, XB7, or another gateway model?
  • What improvements are you hoping to see with new equipment?

With a few more details, we can review your account and determine the best path forward. I look forward to helping!

I have my Gateway in the center of the house and noticed some areas with very slow speeds and sometimes my son says his IPhone doesn't get connection. I don't have any devices paused. I have the XB7 currently as my gateway. when I use wifi for gaming I lag a bit during game play. I have run a speed test and getting about 220 mb through wifi. I am.hoping the XB10 can increase wifi speeds. I have my computer hardwired due to greater speeds. So I think the XB10 can greatly help my speed performance. my internet plan speed is Gigabit internet.

Thank You for responding.

You're welcome @Solawbuster 😀 There's a chance an XB10 can improve your speed and overall performance. It's also possible a weak cable signal could be slowing your connection down. Or this could be a wireless issue to name a few other possibilities. Have you tested your connection with a device connected directly to the back of the modem with an Ethernet cable? This can help diagnose the issue.

Yes, I have My computer hardwire through Ethernet cable and I do get about 930mb hardwired, but wifi is slower about 220 mb.

@Solawbuster

Thank you for confirming the hardwired results. Receiving around 930 Mbps over Ethernet on a Gigabit plan strongly indicates that the connection reaching the gateway is performing as expected. The slower WiFi speeds, gaming lag, and areas where devices lose connection point more toward wireless coverage, interference, or the capabilities of the connected device.

The XB10 is currently limited to qualifying X-Class or FDX service areas with symmetrical speed tiers of 500 Mbps or higher. Having a standard Gigabit plan by itself does not automatically make the account eligible.

Before changing equipment, please run the whole-home network test in the Xfinity app. This will test the speed reaching the gateway and the connection strength of devices throughout the home. Depending on the results, the app may recommend troubleshooting, a gateway replacement, or another WiFi coverage option.

You can find the instructions here:

https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/test-speed-to-gateway-xfinity-app

Once you have the results, please let us know what they show. We can then review your account privately to confirm whether the XB10 is available at your address or whether another equipment or coverage option would better address the issue.

I have run the speed test from the Xfinity App and the results for the test were Download speeds of 1193.6 of the 1000 mbps. plan at 16 ms. latency

Thank you for sharing those results. Receiving 1,193.6 Mbps to the gateway on a 1,000 Mbps plan confirms that the connection reaching the XB7 is performing very well. The 16 ms latency is also within a healthy range.

That means the slower 220 Mbps results, gaming lag, and connection trouble in certain areas are occurring over WiFi rather than with the internet signal reaching the home. A newer gateway may improve wireless performance, but replacing the XB7 alone may not resolve coverage issues caused by distance, walls, interference, or the capabilities of individual devices.

As the next step, please run a speed test on the affected device while standing near the gateway, then repeat it from the room where the issue usually happens. Let us know both results and whether the device is connected to the 5 GHz or 6 GHz WiFi band. We can then review the account and equipment eligibility to determine whether an XB8, XB10, or another coverage solution is the best fit.

I checked my son iPhone connection and he says it connects at intermittent times and usually in the morning he has the most trouble connecting. His connection is under the 5ghz connection speeds. Ran a speed test from his phone and the results of 490 mbps Download and 49 mbps upload. I still would like the upgraded to the XB10. Thank You and I hope I qualify.
