Telephone service shut off and the number disconnected

I cancelled my tv service on 12/28/2021 and returned all my equipment to an Xfinity store and it was conveyed to them that I wanted to keep my internet and telephone.  Lo and behold I just found out yesterday that the phone is not in service.  I have internet service though. The house is a vacation home so we didn't realize until now.  I did an online chat and was told sorry for the confusion, but I can't get my old number back and I could get a new number.  I don't want a new number.  I would like the one that I have had since 1970.  This is unacceptable in my eyes.

Hello @user_69305b! Thank you for reaching out to our community forum. I sincerely regret that your phone was disconnected during a change of service when you didn't request it. I would be frustrated and reaching out as well losing a phone number I've had for so long. I'll be happy to see if there's anything we can do.
