Splt WIFI bands

I was able to do this when I first signed up for Xfinity.  Control both 2.4 and 5 bands independant by using unique names.  Why have you taken this away.  The system will not allow split bands at user level.  Used to be a toggle that combined/separated them  It is controlled via the software now.  There are no seclections in any menu within the app at user level to do this.  I want this returned to user control so I can control what devices I need and what band I want them on.  Plain and simple, return the toggle to the menu to split the bands....no more [Edited: "Language"] from tech support.

NOTE:  I also tried to separate the bands using my PC and router login as admin.  That has also been changed to now allow splitting.  It references using the APP to do this, which we know is not possible.   This would be the place to fix the problem, at the router login.

Thank you for your feedback. You're right that many of our gateways include a feature called Band Steering, which optimizes device connections by automatically selecting the best frequency band. Unfortunately, this often means manual band splitting isn't possible through the Xfinity app or the gateway's admin tool.

To gain more control over your bandwidth settings, consider purchasing your own router and setting the modem to bridge mode. This will allow you to configure the settings as desired.

I am using the same router from you that I received originally, and was able to separate the bands so I guess your response makes no sense.  Did you update and lock the software down on your router.....you want me to pay you for internet but you want to tell me how to manage my network. Part of my contract with you is to provide the router...not go buy another one to use your network.  Better yet, go back to the time that we could shut off band steering....

I understand your frustration @user_71c532 With the advanced intelligence of xFi Gateways, using the same name and password for the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands lets the Gateway sort out which one will provide a better connection at any given time. You will still have both bands and all the associated functionality, channels and range. However, by using the same WiFi name and password for both, devices will connect seamlessly to the most optimal band at any given time. You can read more about this at the link: https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/benefits-same-wifi-network-password-name-xfi-gateway.

If you use their router, they control it.  If you want finer control over your network, your only option is to use an approved third party modem or modem router. Even if you were able to make changes, it will revert back to their standard on the next release/renew cycle.
