Severe Security Risk – unauthorized access to my account by the scammer (Target)

I received a call from someone claiming to be from Xfinity, offering a promotional discount in partnership with Target. The offer was to pay $720 upfront for one year of service, followed by a reduced rate of $60/month for the following two years. They even provided a promo code to use when contacting their so-called “billing department.”

Specific concerns:

  • Payment method: They requested payment via two prepaid Target gift cards, each valued at $360.

  • Suspicious contact information: The phone number they gave for the Xfinity billing department did not match any official Xfinity numbers.

  • Lack of confirmation: Although they claimed an email confirmation would be sent, I never received any documentation.

Serious security concerns:

  • The caller had access to my personal information and Xfinity account details.

  • They knew my autopay schedule, including the amounts of both past and upcoming payments.

  • Most alarmingly, they were able to post a payment to my Xfinity account, likely using a fraudulent or stolen bank account. I suspect this payment will soon be reversed.

I immediately reported this incident to Xfinity. This appears to be a serious security breach, and I strongly urge Xfinity to investigate and take immediate action to safeguard customer information and prevent future occurrences.
