Router update scam

I received a call from someone posing as Comcast asking to help update my router. They were trying to gain access my computer by having me install ultraviewer so they could connect remotely. Watch out for this scam!

Hello @wrubiks and thank you! I appreciate you posting this so others can be aware of this threat. Internet scammers use sophisticated lures as they "fish" for users' private information. The most common ploy is to imitate real companies to entice people to share usernames, passwords, account information or credit card numbers. Steps You Can Take to Make Sure You Don't Fall for Phishing Scams:

Be suspicious of any email, chat or phone call that asks for your personal account information, such as user names, passwords, and account numbers.
Be aware that Comcast will never ask you for password information over the phone, chat or email.
Comcast will never ask for billing or payment information through email.
Always make sure you use a secure server when submitting credit card information. To make sure you're using a secure server, check the beginning of the web address in your browsers address bar - it should be https:// rather than just http://.
Comcast will never ask you to pay a large amount of money upfront over an uncommon payment method.
To verify the legitimacy of any offers or promotions made by a caller, you can always call 1-800-Comcast.
Check our Internet security alerts site for news, updates, Comcast security alerts and top phishing scams.

I just now received the same call.  The phone number is spoofed from a number block in my area!  I insulted the caller, and he insulted me back! So not a Comcast employee.

Plus it was obvious he was calling from a huge room with lots of different conversation's going on at the same time.  And everyone had an accent from Overseas.  Why haven't these scammers been caught and dealt with again?

Just got the same call.  They did not ask for any information but they tried to get me to download ultraviewer to remote control my computer.  I just hung up and called Xfinity to report it.

Just got the same call here.  I am immensely entertained by their answers.  Wasted close to a half hour of their time and I ain't got anything better to do atm since I took I don't wanna work vacation day.  First, why can't you just reset my modem on your end?  Their answer was some kind of weird I have a 4g wifi modem (that is you connected to my coax cable, huh, who knew) that they need me to use my computer for as a "medium" to connect to my modem.  Playing up the I have an old computer issue and my kids chose an awesome time to get restless.  Then they wanted to download that thing and give them info.  Who still falls for these?  I don't know that a computer illiterate person could have understood the accent, and I think most of us have been conditioned by now to not let them in.  When I asked why their phone number didn't show up as Comcast and said I need his name so I can call back on Comcast's number, he hung up on me......[Edited: "Inflammatory/All caps"]
