Rent or Buy (Modem)

After an ACT was passed a while back in 2019 things changed however i noticed and was told that if i own my own device (modem) i have to PAY more rather than renting a modem, how is this fair to people who own their own modem. Why should people pay more for owning something rather than renting the device.

Concern moved here to the Customer Service help section for greater exposure to Comcast corporate employees (The Digital Care Team) for assistance.

Hi there @Paul_90 ! Thanks for reaching out on the Community Forum! I am not familiar with an instance where a customer with an owned compatible modem, pays more for service than someone who rents. Do you have any link or further information that you can share on this subject?

@Paul_90 - Our plan and promotion base rate and pricing does not change based on whether a customer owns a modem or not, so I'm not sure yet what you're referring to. There are certain deals that include discounted options to either lease a Wireless Gateway or sign up for xFi Complete. But in some of those cases, customers who own their own modem actually receive an additional discount for using their own device, which would be the opposite of what you're describing. Unlimited Data options are different, depending on owning a modem or leasing one of our Gateways. Is that possibly what you were referring to? If not, then may I ask for a few more details (without having you provide account-specific information, of course)? Our Digital Care Team is here to help! And it's important to us that you understand your bill as well as your options :)
