Reason we can't have two modems at one address

I want to know the specific reason I'm not allowed to have two modems at one address. We have a household of around 10 people and I have my own family living here (my children) there is no way to just use one modem because 1) it doesn't reach. And 2) we've tried a wifi extender and 3.) There are WAY too many devices. Everytime I would ask for a specific reason I couldn't have another (on a completely separate account) I don't get an answer. There are 4 separate households living at this address. I do not understand why I can't have my own modem for school.

Question moved here to the Customer Service help section for greater exposure to actual Comcast employees for an answer.

@EG Thank you for moving this over for us! [Edit: Adding to post]

@Valenciab
Good afternoon! Thank you for reaching out to us here through our Forums community for Xfintiy support. We are proud to offer a platform to help you with all your account concerns or questions and to be available for you 24/7.

That does sound like you have a lot of devices but that you have also tried options like extending the coverage in the home. I can see this being a challenge especially when you need your connection for schoolwork. There are times we can offer an additional modem if it is recommended by a technician but often an account will come with one modem. There are times, that even with the use of Xfintiy X-Fi pods to increase your coverage, a 2nd modem is still needed. This is actually adding a 2nd line of internet to the existing line. Have you discussed adding one with us in the past? We would have to look at it on a case-by-case basis but I’d be happy to provide you with all the details.

For adding a new account to the current location, this becomes a matter of how the address is listed. If there is only one address for the residence, we can only offer one account as we go off of USPS addresses. If there is a 2nd USPS address, then we can absolutely offer a new account. Does this help explain what some of the options but also some restrictions are?

@XfinityDevinC  it's just one address but it's a bit confusing being as how I already have a modem from xfinity with an account. It would be weird to be on one account with a person that's renting a room out in the same building you are.

I can certainly appreicate where you are coming from. I can see myself doing this with a roommate or extended family living with me but I can see where sharing an account with someone else renting from you could be tricky. If it was an option to add a 2nd line of internet, would it help to have it under one account that the primary account holder manages? There is additional cost associated so I am not sure if that could be factored into rent or not.

Have you also looked into managing the network you have now? You can download the Xfintiy app and manage who connects, what times they can connect, which devices are allowed on your network and more. This helps my family with just having kids who share my network. Would that help in this situation to ensure you have enough connection for important things like schoolwork?

I no longer work for Comcast.
