Promotion

I was called yesterday with a 50% off promotion and was told to buy 2 target cards to activate it.  Is this a real promotion or a scam

Beware! This is a FRAUD!. I got called also by the same thing. A supposed Comcast-Target promotion to get 50% off your bill. I checked with Comcast and Target - there is no such thing. The number that called me was [Edited: "Personal Information"]. They said to go get a prepaid Target card for the whole years bill at the reduced rate and then call another number [Edited: "Personal Information"]. Report this to the FTC Fraud line. DO NOT fall for it, that's the last you'll see of your money. They even sent me a confirmation email when I asked and Gmail caught it and warned me it did not come from Comcast. When I called their bluff, they swore and hung up!. Its surprising that thieves like these are able to get easy access to 800 toll free numbers and scam people with impunity! They should be caught and jailed! Please report!

@user_6e4939 same happened to me today.  Sounded like really good move for Comcast to reward long-time clients like me for over 20 years of loyalty.  Was thinking of switching providers to save some money.  Got confirming email, etc.  Thank God I asked for manager at Target and he’d already seen it and told me it was a scam.  Will be reporting it and agree they should be jailed!

this happened to me today but I did the same I called because I felt like it was too good to be true and I’ve been with Xfinity and when it was Comcast as well and I’ve never had anything of such happen. I think the people fall for this if people actually do fall for this because I don’t ask you for any personal information right then it’s only when you call back to give them the payment with the target gift card. I am definitely reporting them !

Whenever a phone call, text, or email too-good-to-be-true offer asks you to pay with a gift card, chances are 99.9% that it's a scam.

The concern is not "Xfinity App" help related......... Thread moved here to the proper help section, and for greater exposure to the Comcast corporate employees (The Digital Care Team) for assistance.

Hello @user_393ed4, thank you for reaching out for help with a promotion you have questions about. I will be happy to guide you to the right place. That sounds like a great deal, however, we never ask you to purchase gift cards, for a certain promotion. I would consider this to be suspect at minimum. This sounds like a perfect case for our amazing Customer Security Assurance Team. Please, use the link provided to reach out and report the situation, and thank you for bringing it to our attention. 👍

@XfinityBrandon  I too received that call from agent who gave name of Max.  He said they would pay the current account balance and lo and behold it is now $0.

@XfinityBrandon

It definiteley seems to be an inside job .

I called several times earlier in the month to try and get a better price for my bill. Then coincedenteley I not only receive the scam Target gift card call but most glarinigly my bill is paid in the EXACT amount due.

Xfinity keeps a call log of correspondece with customers and should go back to the operators I spoke to and find the culprit.

I did not give out any of my personal information but they were still able to get into my account and pay my bill. So what other information of mine is vulnerable due to Xfinity.

As one of the biggest media companies in the world the lack of protecting customers' accounts is stunning.

Yes. Same with mine. They knew the exact balance on my bill and paid it. I fully expect that payment to be reversed at some point.  Really creepy that they had that information and it doesn't make me feel very good about the security of my account with Xfinity. I called Xfinity and thankfully read these posts and didn't go through with it.

I also received this call and they paid this months payment.. how the heck did they do this.. how are our accounts Not compromised at this point? Yes I called and reported it but they didn’t have much to say :/

p.s I did not go out and buy the target gift cards as instructed. But yes it all started to sound legit after he paid my bill but after sleeping on it, I woke up thinking that that deal was too good to be true and I googled the scam and found this forum.

Just received email supposedly from xfinity stating that my payment made on 8/31 was returned by the bank and charges for this will be added.  My balance still shows $0.  And the bank ending number they provide is not mine.

This is definitely an inside job. I am talking to someone now and I asked them what I am currently paying per month and how much my new price would be and they knew the answer to what I am currently paying...

@user_542fd3 I can't believe I fell for this too... almost. I didn't buy the card either, then they charged my AMEX 300. Sure enough there is a 300 Comcast charge on my Amex that is on file with Comcast. How do they get the money if Amex pays it to Comcast? Is this really a Comcast scam?

I too got a voicemail I qualified for 50% off my bill and to call. So I called and then at the end said to buy 2 target cards. They gave me an authorization number and said to call [Edited: "Personal Information"]. I told them I’ve never heard of this and wanted a number to hear more about this. He gave me the same number and quickly got off the phone.

I get so many scam, spam, and phishing type texts, calls, and voicemails - many times the same voice and deal but from numbers all over the nation.

They were actually able to make the standard xfinity bill page show my balance as $0.  And then generate a change so your balance was back when I didn’t send the card

come on xfinity that screams inside job

Today when I hung up, I then got a text telling me my services would be shut down if didn't call the bogus billing department number, and they would charge me $500 on my account.

@user_8bf745 We can look into your account concerns with you. If you could please send a direct message with your name and the complete service address.

To send a "Direct Message" to Xfinity Support:

Click "Sign In" if necessary

Click the "Direct Messaging" icon or https://comca.st/3EqVMu7

Click the "New message" (pencil and paper) icon

The "To:" line prompts you to "Type the name of a person". Instead, type "Xfinity Support" there

 - As you are typing a drop-down list appears. Select "Xfinity Support" from that list

 - An "Xfinity Support" graphic replaces the "To:" line

Type your message in the text area near the bottom of the window

Press Enter to send it

I can't believe I fell for this. They had VERY good answers, up until I REFUSED to get a Target card. Then they said I would have to pay a 300.00 penalty. They had my Amex on file and automatically charged it 300.00. Sure enough, there is a 300 COMCAST charge, and my comcast shows a 300 payment.. how do they get the 300 from Comcast? It's so confusing. Being Amex, I'll dispute it and all will be fine. But HOW are they doing this, I'm boggled? If the charge is from Comcast how do the scammers get the money? Is this actually a COMCAST scam and the company just keeps it?
