Promotion, eBay gift card, Visa card

I looked and found the scenario for this scam already posted on this site.  I was contacted like 4 times by a person offering a rate reduction of approximately 50% for 2 years in exchange for prepaying 4 months with eBay gift card(s), calling an Xfinity promotion department phone number and I would also get a $150 prepaid Visa card in the mail IF I got the cards and called in tonight.  I tried in vain to get an Xfinity person on the phone to ask about this and verify but, as you no doubt expect, I was unable to get connected with an actual person.  Thank God I had the sense to go on line and find more than one post about the scam already.

The thing that was disconcerting was the amount of my information they had when I started asking questions.  These black hearted sons of motherless goats are good, and they are taking advantage of Comcast/Xfinity's notoriously poor customer service.

Scams like this are decades old, and even older - before the use of personal computers.  So far, no one has been able to stop them, because if one person is detected, there's others out there just like them, and more coming up behind them.  If these people put as much time in to making the internet more secure as they do trying to scam people we'd have the best security around, but they're more into trying to make a buck without really trying.

Hello community memebers! I hate to hear that you all have been impacted by these unwanted phone calls. Scam calls are a nuisance and something we never want our customers to fall victim to. We do our best to help eliminate these calls as much as possible, but in the event they still come through, here are some tips we recommend taking to help keep yourself safe:

Add your phone number to the National Do Not Call Registry. The National Do Not Call Registry is a database maintained by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, that lists the telephone numbers of individuals who have requested that telemarketers not contact them. This is a really great way to help keep yourself protected as it is going to ensure that you only receive phone calls from the companies you do business with. You can add your phone number to the National Do Not Call Registry for free by visiting https://comca.st/2SsvDHw or calling 1-888-382-1222 (TTY 1-866-290-4236) toll-free from the phone you wish to register. Your phone number should show up on the Registry the next day, but most sales calls will stop once your number has been on the Registry for 31 days. You can verify that your number is on the Registry by visiting https://comca.st/2SsvDHw or calling 1-888-382-1222. If you have ported your number from one carrier to another, but remember that these must be re-registered with the National Do Not Call Registry.

The FTC offers additional information about registering on its website: https://comca.st/2QWquHd

Always be cautious about providing personal information over the telephone. Scammers can manipulate caller IDs to make people believe the call is from a legitimate company. This scam is not limited to phone calls as they have also started using text messaging, instant messaging, and blogs to send unsolicited commercial emails. Even with being on the National Do Not Call Registry, there is a very, very, small chance a scammer can find a way to get around this, so it is recommended to avoid ever providing things like credit card information, your full name, full address, and most importantly, your Social Security Number over the phone. This information can be safe to provide if you are calling a verified phone number for a company, like if you called us at 1-800-XFINITY (1-800-934-6489). That is our direct customer service line, so you can feel secure knowing we'll always take the proper steps to keep that information safe. If someone calls you and asks you to verify very personal information, that could be a red flag!

How to Report Phone Fraud

To report violations of the National Do Not Call Registry, visit https://comca.st/2SsvDHw or call 1-888-382-1222. (Again, if your name is on the Do Not Call Registry, you should only receive calls from companies that you do business with or companies that you gave permission to call. If you receive a call from another company, report it. You will need the name and number of the caller and date and time of the call.)

  • Visit https://comca.st/2RtPMfC or call 1-877-FTC-HELP.
  • The complaint that you report will be submitted into the Consumer Sentinel Network, which is a database that is used by law enforcement agencies across the world. It helps them to track down the culprits and eventually stop the fraud.

You may also file a complaint with the FCC at https://comca.st/3eW6Pz5

If you are ever in doubt of communications you receive from someone claiming to be from Comcast, please reach out to us directly! You can just make a new post here on this platform and my team will see it to be able to help! We have the ability to see all inbound/outbound calls made on your account between you and our support team, so we'll be able to confirm if who you spoke with was legitimate or not. Sometimes the record can take 24 hours to populate, but we'd always be more than happy to follow up if we don't see the call right away to help provide the correct answer for you. We can also confirm any suspicious emails you may receive as we also have a record of the emails we send to you directly.

I am hopeful this information can help keep you guys safe in the future. Please don't hesitate to let me know if you have any questions at all on anything we went over. I hope you all can stay safe and healthy out there! We thank you for taking part in our awesome community here!

I got the same call today. Yes it sounded too good to be true so it is a good thing I found your post and confirmed my suspicions.  Thanks

And they are still at it.  Was suspicious when they couldn't say which services I had.

They are slick.  You buy the debit card, pay up front to a "billing agent" at a bogus 1-888# for the "billing switch," and they pocket the cash.

XFINITY should go after these scammers that are dragging them even further down.

The recourse?  You won't be compensated by Comcast.  People will do anything to scam you out of your wallet.  If it sounds to good to be true, or even the least bit shady, it's not for you.  Lesson learned.  I'm sorry you learned it the hard way.

I also just received a call from this group.  I will be passing along the information that this is a scam to all of my friends and neighbors.  It is one of the most well organized scams I have faced so far and I get a million of them.  I got suspicious as soon as they started talking about using eBay gift cards to pay the bill and that I could not use any other form of payment.  No legitimate organization would set up a deal like this.  Clearly not something as large as these two organizations.  They insisted that I would need to call the Comcast/Xfinity Billing-Activation phone number that they supplied and not to go through the main phone system in order to avoid the automated switchboard and the potential of lengthy call wait times.  I told the guy I was willing to wait to make sure they got things right.  He said that someone on the phone line he provided would be able to validate that this was a legitimate program.  Yeah right!!!  Anyway, as soon as I did a quick search, nothing but SCAM showed up in every search result.  Thanks for your post!

I just got the same call.   Terrible as it was too good to be true and then when pressuring them, they eventually hung up.  Xfinity should send alerts out to their customers about these scams.  Also, how did this scammer know so much about me and my Xfinity account?

[Edited: "Language"], they got me for $200. I stopped before I gave them any other gift card numbers.  I just had an overall gut reaction then I read the warning on the ebay gc.

My question is how did they have access to my entire Xfinity account. They knew I had 3 DVR, what plan I am on and my total bill. I do not receive a hard bill so they had to get into the system.

I received the same suspicious call and offer.  I called Comcast directly and gave them the bogus promotional code that was provided to me by the caller.  No such promotion exists, and I was told that Comcast never would require a customer to buy a prepaid gift card prior to getting a promotion.  It is disturbing that the caller already knew much of my information i.e. name, address and Comcast services to which I subscribe.
