Phone scam

I received a call and voice message from [Edited: "Personal Information"] to call [Edited: "Personal Information"].  They said I can get a 50% discount on my monthly service bill. I called the number and it seems like a legitimate Xfinity number.  I wait a long time and a person answered.  He said Target is sponsoring this discount and asked me to sign a three year contract at $15/month but I need to prepaid two years in advance which comes to $300.  They asked me to go purchase a Target gift card with $360 loaded into the card and call them back on [Edited: "Personal Information"] before 10pm tomorrow!  When I call this number, I am to give them the authorization code “XFI618”.  They also asked me to sign into my Xfinity app and check that they gave me a $35 credit already.  I checked and indeed there is a $35 credit in my account!  They also pressured me to take care of this within 100 minutes and I will get another $100 Visa gift card!  This prompt me to be suspicious of this call!  I would like to know how they can get hold of my Xfinity account and triggered a $35 payment!  Can you explain to me what is going on and confirm this is indeed a scam!

... They asked me to go purchase a Target gift card ...

It's a well known scam. See any of the many posts at https://forums.xfinity.com/conversations/search?page=1&sortKey=RELEVANCE&q=%22scam%20call%22&sortOrder=DESC. Customers have lost a lot of money.

A competent company would have posted prominent warnings about a widespread scam that has cheated many and appears to use leaked customer data, but Comcast hasn't bothered to do that. They really should.

@XfinityArmand: Although not visible, the link you posted has a final "/" at the end of the link. For reasons I do not understand that causes it to redirect to "internet-security-site-web.wc-g2.cf.comcast.net", which operates on a private IP like 172.24.81.* and is therefore not accessible to customers. Attempting to follow it results in a "The connection has timed out" failure. OTOH https://internetsecurity.xfinity.com/help/report-abuse (no final "/") is accessible. Plain old https://internetsecurity.xfinity.com/ works too and leads to the same destination.

If you have gotten a call claiming to be from Comcast asking you to buy gift cards or paying upfront for six months or more in exchange for 50% off your bill the FTC is well aware of this scam.  If you get a call like this you can report it to:     https://reportfraud.ftc.gov/#/
If the scam involves Target gift cards call the Target GiftCard Services at 1 (800) 544-2943 and follow the instructions provided.
More information can be found here.
Please help to stop the spread of this kind of fraud.
Thanks!
