Phone not working

No phone dialtone after new modem xb8. Can't call out.  No rings for incoming call and voice message going directly to voicemail instead of to phone voicemail.

Hey @sam1101, Thank you for visiting our official Xfinity Forums Community support page. We greatly appreciate you taking the time to share your experience regarding the Xfinity Voice services. I would be more than happy to offer my assistance looking into this further for you. Sounds like the Xfinity Voice service just needs activation and provisioning.

Please also note that sending unsolicited private messages to myself or any other user is a direct violation of our forum guidelines. You must first create a Public post requesting assistance, and once a Comcast verified employee responds and asks for a private message to be sent, you can then proceed with doing so.

Please send a direct message by clicking the chat icon in the upper right corner of the page, clicking on the pen and paper icon, and then entering “Xfinity Support” in the “To” section. Please include your full first/last name and complete service address (Including the city, state, and zip code), and I'll be happy to help.

After many hours being unable to get an answer as to my landline phone having no rings, no dial tone and going direct to xfinity voicemail, I got a second tier 1 support person,  who subsequently got me to tier 2 support who knew what the problem was. For those who had the xb8 modem install phone problem you will need to get to a tier 1 or 2 person who will reregister your landline #.  Only they can do it.  Even though the gateway install will show your landline # as active under the install it is remembering it under your previous gateway.  Only tier 2 support knew how to reregister the landline # under the new gateway.   Then I got a dialtone and could use the landline and call in to get my voicemail from home phone and from outside.  I'm still testing it but did also retrieve my original answering message.  The AI assistant can't do it, and puts you in a loop over and over.  As someone else said you just have to keep trying because for me all roads initially lead to the AI assistant deadend. Good luck!!

For the record-I did post my problem on the forum prior to getting the input today that I hadn't followed the forum procedures.  I did the direct message to support based on the steps on the forum that I saw provided as avenue to get this mess resolved since AI assistant wasn't resolving or granting access to support. Why was I here?  Because I had a rented xfinity modem overheating and constantly sounding like a fan running.  And a replacement modem that knocked my landline phone off.  I needed a resolution now, not later.  I stand by my efforts and took even more time to let forum know what the fix was.  That is how I posted publically.  Sorry it wasn't to your liking.

sam1101 Posting would be the first requirement, but you also need to wait for us to request a direct message or private message before contacting us privately. We just need to make you aware of that for future reference. We appreciate your feedback on this matter.
