phone call then email from "xfinity" saying hacking attempt

We got a phone call supposedly from Xfinity saying they were investigating a malicious hacking attempt to/on our internet. The guy wanted us to turn off the modem then turn it on and then connect to a website he was going to give us that would be able to 'catch' the offenders by tracing their ip adr.  Hubby was skeptical and asked for all that to be sent in an email which we got (came from " xfinity.account@xfinity dot com which they did.   We can not get through to a real person at xfinity to see if this is a real threat or not.  The internet is in our winter residence in FL and we will not be back down there until Nov.   We are Canadian with Canadian cellphones so we can not download the xfinity app -they dont permit it on foreign phones.

Anybody know if this hacking attempt is a concern or another scammer?

Concern moved here to the Customer Service help section for greater exposure to Comcast corporate employees (The Digital Care Team) for assistance.
