Notifications of messages but nothing there

Recently I have noticed that when I go to settings the "notifications" says I have
x number of new messages" I click on it and it comes up with "no messages all caught up".  What is going on??  why is is saying I have messages but then tell me I am all caught up????  [The proceeding paragraph was copied from an old post that is closed.  I am having the same problem.]

I can go to my iPad (Apple Mail) and see the new messages.  I cannot see the new messages on comcast.net webmail.  Comcast.net webmail is not showing new messages.

There are many similar posts about this problem on this forum.  All posts about this problem are closed with no solution posted.  The problem should not show solved if there is not a post showing the solution.

Hello, @djg1, I'm sorry to hear about the issue with your email notification. This is a tricky one since you are using Apple mail. If I am interpreting everything correctly you have no Xfinity emails, and your Apple Mail app shows there are some Emails. If it were me the first thing I would do is see if the issue happens on another device if possible. If the issue is not happening on another device most likely it's the iPad. Maybe try making sure the iPad has all its updates, clear cache and cookies, close the app and relaunch the app. This might seem basic but it’s a good starting point.

Comcast.net webmail is not showing new messages. You do not understand.  I am using comcast webmail! Comcast.net webmail is not showing new messages.  I am not using apple mail. Comcast.net webmail is not showing new messages.

Hey, @djg1!

Email situations like this can get a bit complex, but I'd like to try and explain what is happening.

Let's start off by picturing two boxes of mail, one labeled Apple mail, and the other, Comcast mail.

When someone sends an email to your Comcast address, it is placed into that Comcast mail box and you are immediately sent a notification that there is an unread message.

But because you are also using Apple mail, that message is then picked up and moved to your Apple mail box. By the time you get around to checking your Comcast mail box, that message has already been moved. This function is referred to as POP3.

By definition POP3 downloads the email from a server (Comcast) to a single computer (phones are tiny computers), then deletes the email from the server.

The alternative function would be IMAP, which instead stores the message on a server and synchronizes the message across multiple devices.

Fortunately, this is a setting you can change! :D

Even better yet, we have a super-handy guide HERE to walk you through the steps of doing so!

Please check it out and give it a try. Let us know if it helps or if you need an extra hand.

I no longer work for Comcast.

I am using Comcast webmail.  I am not using apple mail.  The iPad that I temporary used has IMAP not POP3.

I am using Comcast webmail.  I see no new messages for today.  My comcast webmail in box shows over 50 new messages today.  Again, I am using Comcast webmail.  IMAP will leave all messages on the comcast webmail server and has nothing to do with comcast webmail.
