NO SERVICE unless I pay $5000

We are RIGHT NEXT DOOR to our neighbor that has Xfinity, and yet they want to charge us at least $5000 to service our home. They recently re-mapped our neighborhood for upgrades and STILL wanna charge us $5000 to run a line. All I want to do is GIVE THEM MONEY ! If anyone in management sees this, please get back to me.

Hello, I hope your day is going well. I understand you are trying to get new services, and were given a pretty high quote to do so. Honestly, construction is expensive. I have seen prices up to $25,000 before. I can assure you we would not overcharge you for the purpose of any financial gain. The costs will include equipment, labor, and whatever it takes to get the connection securely set up in the neighborhood. We can open another ticket to get a second opinion, but I am confident it won't be much different. Would you like to try?

@XfinityVanessa Nobody has ever been out here to view this in person. It would be great to have someone come out because our mailbox is 25 feet away from our neighbors, and this is also where their cable connection box is.

How far away is RIGHT NEXT DOOR to your neighbor that has Xfinity?

Are you talking about a regular city street or maybe acreage?

This kind of thing is probably due to some rule they have about how far a house can be from some node.  If you can convince them, possibly you could run some low voltage power out to the pole and pole mount the cable modem in some kind of vented enclosure on the pole, and use either MOCA or Ethernet to get to the house from there. If there is a pole closer to the neighbors house but adjacent to your property, you could do the drop there, then use MOCA with RG6 to get internet to the house.

So. I am currently chatting with Xfinity support (for about 1 1/2 hours) and the representative said our address was "serviceable" and started talking about the various plans they had. I kept asking about the charge of connection and was still led around to the options as far as speed I wanted, etc. only to find out that we may STILL have to pay over $5000 to get things connected. My Husband and I have jointly paid for Xfinity service at our other residences for over 25 years and the amount they want to charge for connection here is almost 3 mortgage payments. XFINITY ? You have to do better ! My laptop is almost out of juice. if anyone from management is seeing this, there is still an issue. CRAZY. I will continue to chat with the representative until my laptop dies.

It seems you have underground wiring, and the distance is closer to 500ft, looking at the map. One idea is this:

  1. Install a vented enclosure at the street, by the cable box.
  2. install a second enclosure half way to the street.
  3. run CAT 6 outdoor rated, and low voltage power wiring, between the house and enclosure 2,
  4. run CAT 6 outdoor rated, and low voltage power wiring, between the enclosure 1 and enclosure 2,
  5. install a gigabit switch in enclosure 2
  6. install a cable modem in enclosure 1
  7. Convince a supervisor at Comcast to connect up your cable modem.

A very good trick is to bury the wiring in ground by using a ditch witch to pull 1" irrigation lines to put all the wiring into.

@user_cbe846 Thanks for your input, but there is no way we would be able to do that and we would have to access the right-of-way which we can't legally do/ I'm still trying to get this situated. I appreciate you looking at the map and measuring the distance. It'd be nice if Xfinity took the time to come out here and get it done without trying to sell me on products and services beforehand. I'm blown away that they want o charge us an ASTRONOMICAL amount of money to get service to our home when it appears that the main money would be for burying the cable. See my chat with them that I just posted. Thanks again for checking things out for us.

I may be overthinking it. another way is to simply tell them to do a temporary hookup, and that you wish to bury the line yourself in ground.  I did this at my house, and they actually supplied me the right wire to run the permanet hookup. It was thicker than the normal RG-6.  In the right-of-way, there should be no trouble connecting wires or even putting in piping or conduit to a box. With a long run like that, simply a cable modem amplifier might do, and that gets it's DC power from your house which has a power inserter at your end.  But they likely would put in the right setup themselves if they did a temporary hookup. Temporary means the lines just run across the ground. At my house, I actually had the sprinkler guy (or myself, I can't recall which) pull the tubing with a Ditch Witch. If you have woods there, you could technically just attach it to trees to your house, but if a branch falls on it, it might break then need fixing.

Thanks for your input, but we are older and there is no way for us to be able to do it. I received a chat message from a rep saying that our property was serviceable and what options were we looking for ? They were asking about a gateway, what speed, etc. I repeatedly asked if there was a charge to hook things up, only to get more options presented. We feel we were led on because why on earth would a rep be asking us about what our needs were ? Finally, the rep said that there would be a charge for hook-up but we were expected to pay a "portion". Is $5000 a "PORTION"? ANY way, a rep had offered for someone to come out and re-survey the property but that has not happened. My Husband and I have spent THOUSANDS of dollars over the years at various addresses for Xfinity. Would someone PLEASE get back to me. $5000 is crazy !!

I completely understand and agree with this. In the case where you would not have to pay the huge amount to start services, the pro install that would be needed is $100. The gateway is our modem/router combo which would provide your internet service.

Are you saying the work can be completed for $100 ? If so, let's get it done. I understand how the gateway works. I was just floored that someone is trying to talk about what services I want when I am just trying to get service hooked up ! Again, if it's $100, let's do it ! $5000 is not gonna cut it-that price is OUTRAGEOUS.

Yes, sorry for the confusion. When an address is listed as serviceable it is only the $100 charge in the order. It may take more than 1 visit or work from another team once the technician determines the install. We ask you go online on our site and create your order as that is the preferred method due to how our systems work and creating a better experience. https://www.xfinity.com/planbuilder   If you have questions about the plans we are happy to answer. The process will let you know the breakdown and install charge. Let us know if you have any issues.

How do I schedule someone to come out ? We already know what plans/services we would be ordering. Thanks.

@user_248af5. We ask you try online first, but if you really do not want to or can't, we can help set it up. Our startup options can be different from online and require other payments towards the bill, but we can go over that. Send a new direct message or use the same thread if you still have it.

Do you know if @XfinityDaryl  was able to set up that serviceability ticket for you?  FWIW, that $100 they've been talking about is having a tech come out and set up your service after the lines have been run.

It seems there has been some miscommunication going on here.  😕

Thanks for chiming in. So, our property is "serviceable". I think you're right about the miscommunication, though. I'm unsure if you saw my message that I actually had a chat with someone that asked me all kinds of questions about what services and packages I was looking for. I kept asking about the $5000 and finally the person said we might have to share a "portion" of the cost to connect. I'm wondering if @XfinityEthan is saying that I have to have someone come out first to "survey" the property directly. If someone from Xfinity can chime in, please do. AGAIN. We think $5000 is out of control because we are maybe a few feet over what Xfinity deems to be the $100 hookup. Xfinity ??

That is correct. We would then install the services with a professional installation at the cost of $100. We would not want you to pay any portion of the build-out as your location will be serviceable.

So. To be very clear, we will not be charged $5000 because our property is serviceable ? ?? And, I need to schedule the install professional online ??

Once the address is in our system, we would then set up that up for you based on your availability.

Okay. So, I can schedule someone to come out and run the lines, etc., and THEN set up the services we want ? I'm trying to figure out if I need to set up a plan first, or if someone needs to come out first. WITHOUT the $5000 charge. Can anyone outline the specific steps for me ?

@user_248af5 I do understand your concerns. It would be best to have the construction completed first. The time it takes to complete construction can take a while. Once everything has been completed, we can start with creating an account for you.

So....I am going around and around AGAIN. I spoke with a Timothy person under @user_248af5 (I have no idea why I have a new user number) and they clarified that we have been added to the serviceable area and there would be NO $5000 to service our house, as we have been added to the serviceability area. I chatted with @XfinityTimothy or @XfinityTimothyC or @XfinityTimothyA

Can someone please reach out to me ? I am getting nowhere with direct messaging

I was hoping some would reach out via direct messaging or at least posting here. I received a call from Chris in sales operations on January 25th saying that our address was added in the system as "serviceable" and I could call and set up an account. I chatted with Timothy a few days later, and he confirmed with Chris that I was good to go and we could pick a plan. Timothy said he would reach out on Friday so my Husband and I could discuss our needs. I logged on Friday, and spent at LEAST 2 hours via chat picking a plan. An install was scheduled for yesterday, the 9th. The gentleman came out and said the install would need to be put on hold and that construction would need to be contacted. And that construction would get back to me within 48-72 hours. Obviously, it's only been 24, So I have no idea what they will say. I have an account number, a plan, but no idea about the actual service. I went to chat yesterday and the support person said that I was "non-serviceable" and that I would need to pay $5000 and did I "want to proceed"? So. I don't know what to do or what's going on. Also, I cannot find the conversation with Timothy, so I only have a picture (that I texted to my Husband because I was so excited) saying that the $5000 quote was from 2021 and since then the serviceable area had expanded. Also, it seems that I am posting under 2 different user names/numbers and I have no idea why. Can ANYONE let me know if I am in fact "serviceable" and that the account number and everything I planned with Timothy is moving forward without me having to pay $5000 ??
