Is there still no way to split the 2.4 and 5ghz bands?

I've tried going into the gateway and disabling the 5.0 one but then all my internet disappears and I cannot find the 2.4 anywhere on any of my devices... I've been trying to connect my smart lights for about 4 hours now and just finding out that the main reason why I'm being blocked from connecting them is an Xfinity error and not something I was doing wrong is extremely infuriating and I just hope we can figure out a fix before I have to start researching my own modem and ditching the corporations always tryin to fix things that aren't broken.

hirky45 Thank you so much for reaching out for help with your WIFI channels. I have a printer that only works on the 2.4 GHz so I understand the need to make sure you are connecting to the correct band. Disabling one of the signals is not recommended.  If you have a combined WIFI network like most of our customers you can split the channels again but changing their names. This way the 5.0 devices can still connect and you can make sure the 2.4 can be located by name. In your Xfinity app if you press the WIFI tab and then WIFI Details you will get a pop-up with Edit WIFI Setting at the bottom.  At the very bottom, you have the split WIFI bands option. Once toggled on you will be able to edit each channels name to better identify each one. If you still can not find the correct network on the device in question you may need to change its location or the location of the modem. The wave sizes for the 5.0 signal and the 2.4 are different to help ensure better coverage but that means you can have gaps if only using one of the two.

All I see under 'Edit WiFi Settings' is Wifi name:, Wifi password:, Security Mode:, and a Broadcast WiFi name toggle. Idk where this "split WiFi bands' option is coming from but I do not have that button on my side.

hirky45 Thats off It would be under that  Broadcast WiFi name toggle. That is where it is on my Xfinity app. Are you using one of our rented Xfi enabled gateways or one you own?

@XfinityAmandaB Yes I have the XB8 gateway but I don't see it, can't someone at customer service just split them and change the names or is that for some reason something only I can do and then I guess we're stuck.

hirky45 If you have our XB6 or newer gateway, then Advanced Wi-Fi settings for gateways with this software enhancement are not visible and cannot be managed from the Admin Tool or Xfinity app. We are also unable to manage that from our end. Here is a great link https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/change-wifi-mode-admin-tool-xfinity-xfi that provides more information about this.

The default is for all the bands to share the same SSID. However, in the Xfinity app on your phone you can select to split bands. This allow to give a different SSIDs for each band. That way you can select which band your devices connect to.

This is how I have done it with my Xfinity XB8 Gateway. Note this router has 3 bands 2.4, 5, and 6 GHz.

I can get that far, but it doesn't stick after I select SAVE. ??  When I return to that page, the split bands is turned off again.
